Early Life and Education: A Future Star from Merseyside

This Merseyside beauty grew up in a loving family, alongside Carole Rigby and her husband Steven, and with her older sister named Charlotte. Interestingly, she has Iberian and Celtic roots, which is not something many people can say. Ever since she started walking, she developed a love for dance. All it took for her to become hooked on this form of art was her mother taking her to a concert. ‘My mum took me to the ballet at three, and that was the only time I sat still, with jaw open, mesmerised. She brought me home, and I wouldn’t stop dancing.’, Emma said of the experience. After an intense period of dance lessons and competitions, her sights were set on becoming a globally popular actress,  despite which she never disregarded her education. At her General Certificate of Secondary Education (GSCE) exams, which include a series of tests that verify that a student graduated from high school, she had nine As; she matriculated from De La Salle High School.

Career Beginnings: Born and Bred, Hollyoaks and Hollyoaks Later

Emma made her acting debut at the age of 13, appearing in an episode of the popular TV series “Born and Bred”. After years of classes and small-time plays, she finally got a taste of television and was determined that this was where she wanted to be. However, with the help of her parents, she came to the decision to forego professional acting until she completed her education. Thus, as an ambitious teenager, she returned in her big breakthrough, “Hollyoaks”, as Hannah Ashworth.

Critics were amazed by the way Emma took on this difficult role – Hannah was a character with a tragic background. Once a bright and cheerful girl, she started having self-esteem problems, eventually resulting in bouts of anorexia and bulimia. In each of the 196 episodes she appeared in, Emma was praised for her convincing performances, so it didn’t take long before she became a star in Britain. In 2009, she took on the role of Hannah again, this time in “Hollyoaks Later”, a series of unseen footage from “Hollyoaks”. Her stint on the show resulted in a number of awards, including for Best Actress at the British Soap Awards in 2008.

Life After Hollyoaks: Becoming Human, Once Upon a Time, Movies and More

Immediately after “Hollyoaks”, Emma appeared as Eloise in the short film entitled “Talk”, then a year later in 2011, we could see her as Brandy Mulligan in “Becoming Human”. This excellent performance made her even more popular, which lead to other important roles, such as those in “Demons Never Die”, “Prisoners Wives”, “Pramface” and “Girl on a Bicycle”.

The period of Emma’s career after Hollyoaks can be described as a focus on movies. Despite her role as Anastasia, The Red Queen in “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland”, she seemed hesitant when it came to taking on more recurring roles in TV shows. Her recent works include appearances in “American Violence”, “Actors Anonymous”, “Hollywood Dirt” and “The Festival”. Despite not reaching the same level of consistency she had in “Hollyoaks”, her will to experiment and expand her already extensive repertoire it very impressive. Critics cite “The Counselor” and “The Physician” as her two best appearances on the silver screen.
