He matriculated from a local high school in Benton, and didn’t attend college but rather joined the US Air Force at the age of 19 – he had the goal of pursuing a career in law enforcement, but his military entrance examination showed that he was rather better at biology, and was therefore sent to study that. He became an exterminator when posted to Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas, Nevada.

Billy was physically very active during those four years he spent at high school, as he played football and basketball but stopped after matriculation – today, he occasionally plays soccer with his friends and the staff of the “Billy The Exterminator” show.

Career as a reality TV star

Billy’s career as a reality TV star was launched on 4 February 2009, with the release of the first episode of his reality TV show “Billy The Exterminator” – it aired on A&E network until 2012, and later from 2016, and followed Billy, an expert in pest control who owns the Vexcon Animal and Pest Control company in Benton in Louisiana. Before he began starring in his own show, he appeared in the first two episodes of the “Dirty Jobs” reality TV series, which aired on the Discovery Channel.

The show is solely Billy’s, but many of his family members have been featured in it throughout the years, including his parents, his brother Ricky, and Ricky’s ex-wife Pam. In the first three seasons, the show was mostly focused on Billy and his brother, and the two began roaming around the US during the show’s fourth season – they met exterminators from various states, and helped them work as well as learning new tricks from them.

The show officially ended in the second half of 2012, when Billy left Vexcon due to personal issues, and moved to live in Illinois with his wife Mary – the show was revived in 2016 when Proper Television and Corus Entertainment created the seventh season of the show, which premiered on 5 April 2017 in Canada, and was entitled “Billy Goes North”.

Billy The Exterminator

In October 2015, Billy’s brother Ricky launched a YouTube channel, and created the series entitled “Vexcon The Exterminators” – the channel was not very successful, gathering only around 2400 subscribers, and Ricky stopped uploading videos not long after the launch, creating only 16 episodes.

Love life, marriage and divorce

Billy married his high school love sometime in the ‘90s, and he and his other half Mary have a son together, named Bryce Bretherton.

Mary was featured in the first season of the “Billy The Exterminator” series alongside her husband, but after that decided she no longer wanted to appear in the show. Because she could no longer be seen in the show after the first season, people believed that the two had divorced – rumors began circulating the internet very quickly, but there has been no evidence that Billy and Mary have parted ways. Billy’s brother Rick was married to a woman named Pam, but none of the family liked her, including Billy, and the two divorced not long after they married.

Problems with the authorities

Billy and his wife Mary were arrested, in Bossier City in Louisiana – the police found synthetic marijuana as well as some smoking equipment on them, and the two were charged with drug possession. They made a deal with the prosecutor, and ended up only being fined, and sentenced to community service.

Hobbies and other interests

Billy became interested in biology only after it turned out he was good at it – he’s a big fan of animals including all kinds of insects, and even though he’s a pest exterminator, he prefers not to kill the animals he finds, but to rather take them and release them into their natural habitats. He had two pet dogs who could have occasionally been seen in his show during its first seasons.

Billy enjoys watching movies and TV series in his spare time – some of his favorite actors and actresses include Vin Diesel, Tom Hanks, and Jennifer Lopez. Movies he likes to watch the most are “xXx” starring Vin Diesel, “Cast Away” starring Tom, and “Maid in Manhattan” starring Jennifer. Some of his favorite TV series include “CSI: Miami” and “Game of Thrones”.

Appearance and net worth

Billy  has long brown hair and brown eyes, is 5ft 8ins (1.72m) tall, and weighs around 145lbs (66kgs) – his net worth is over $500,000, as of late 2024.

While its true that Bryce Bretherton is Billy’s son, Bryce is Mary’s Step son! Billy was married once before and Bryce is Billy & his ex-wife’s son. Bryce was born in 2000 so he’s now 20-21 yrs old now. I know this because Bryce was born the SAME YEAR I graduated high school.

No, BIlly and his EX-WIFE have Bryce together, not Billy and Mary. Mary is his STEP MOM.

I believe Billy the exterminator was very mindful and educational host.

  4. Well, living in the country setting for over 40 years and dealing with everything I’ve seen on his show except alligators. I Can say with COMPLETE confidence that either most of his mistakes or close calls EVERY episode are either blown out of proportion, staged to look/feel worse or just complete incompetence as a pest control removal methods and honestly ridiculous. From getting stung for no reason other than not wearing proper equipment to getting bit by squirrels and raccoons and other animals by picking them up by their tails without securing their neck, two chasing them around with ropes and Nets in the open setting where the animal clearly has a faster advantage is to me laughable. I’m not one to like ridiculing or talking bad about other people but I just have to say this because everything I read on Billy seems to be praised, and people saying it don’t know any better. They see him go in like a bull in a china shop ripping down portions of houses or running around like a madman sweating chasing animals and think wow you must be good LOL. In all actuality I deal with these animals all the time and I can tell you with 100% confidence there’s no need to be stung a thousand times while removing a beehive, or getting bitten by a squirrel because you’re chasing it around with a net and grabbing its tail before you have some sort of Game Plan. Or shaking a cage to try to get a possum out when they are the most docile wild creature in the wilderness. Simply get behind its ears brace its back of its neck and place your other hand on its back and pick it up gently without incident. Or like the episode where they’re dealing with skunks and did not think to cover the cage partially in an open area catch the skunk and then dance around the cage when the skunk tries to lift its tail because that’s certainly the proper way to do it?? LOL no easy answers and quite laughable as an entertainment value the show is great. But for reality purposes I wouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket on the methods of removal you see on the show. The one good thing about the show is the informational aspect some of the information he relays on the show is correct and with proper execution is very useful. I know people are going to be mad at me and probably say I’m an Internet troll but that matters not to me, I deal with the same animals you people see on the show and I will tell you it affects me not if you attack me for my opinion because I still pay my bills and when I’m dealing with these animals I get it done a lot more efficiently. Have a nice day.

    • Update from my last comment.
And most of the larger jobs they are set on or not even Billy or Ricky’s job. They are called to bring it on to the TV show. The job belongs to usually another pest control or specialist driver and Billy puts the episode on the show like it is his company’s job ticket and they completed job. In reality the actual Specialist or exterminator actually catches the animal and allows Billy and Ricky to act like they are catching it and put it on the show as their job. I could be wrong perhaps I am, maybe he’s the best exterminator in the world and I am not seeing it correctly. All possibilities are on the table I’m just telling you my personal experience in dealing with the animals I see them dealing with.
