The Riches of Adam Montoya
How rich is Adam Montoya? As of late-2019, sources estimate a net worth that is over $1.5 million, earned through success on YouTube. However, he moved away from the platform in recent years in efforts to help build further wealth.
Early Life, Education, and Career Beginnings
There is limited information when it comes to Adam’s life before his rise to fame online, as he has only shared very few details regarding his family and upbringing. After matriculating from high school, he enrolled at San Diego State University (SDSU), but subjects unknown.
Following the completion of his undergraduate degree, Adam began to do freelance work, as he was looking for a specific career that would interest him – he did videography and several wedding projects. At around this time, he discovered the rising popularity of YouTube channels focused on gaming, and decided that it would be the path he would pursue.
YouTube Channel and Content
Being a big fan of video games, Montoya created his channel to focus on gameplay and video game commentaries. Initially, he started uploading highlights of his multiplayer games of “Call of Duty”. As he progressed, he found more comfort with creating video game content focused on himself playing with a dedicated group of friends who are also YouTubers. Some of the most popular games he has played during his career include “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Zombies” and “The Hidden”.
Some of his collaborators were also popular in their own right, and this helped in elevating their popularity as well as their reach. His videos featured VanossGaming and Markiplier, and started to gain a lot of attention thanks to his playthroughs with YouTuber and the streamer GassyMexican, who is well known for his voice impressions. In these videos, he and his friends often coerce Gassy into playing the game while role-playing a character, doing the impression alongside it. Some of his other collaborators include Chilled Chaos, Hutch, Tejbz, RitzPlays, and Mr. Sark. He also played a lot of the game “Garry’s Mod” with his friends.

Sponsorships, YouTube Projects, and Sudden Hiatus
During the early part of his YouTube career, Adam partnered with the company Machinima Inc. and began posting gameplay videos which were featured on the company’s channel. He had become a full-time employee of the company at one point, though still managing to maintain his own channel’s content. After several years, he announced the creation of a new network called JETPAK, which was founded by former Machinima employees. The group specifically helped to create a network which advantaged YouTubers and their channels, not using them to the company’s benefit.
In 2016, he worked alongside Evan Fong on a YouTube Red series called “The Paranormal Action Squad”, which is an animated adult comedy. He played the character Paul in the show and it was written by “Michael Rowe” who is known for his work in “Futurama”. Two years later, his followers noticed a sudden decrease in activity from YouTube – he was only releasing a video a week. His social media presence also slowed down, and by mid-2018 he stopped uploading completely onto all of his public channels and accounts;, he made a guest appearance in a friend’s Twitch stream, stating that he was looking into real estate and getting passive income up, which is his primary focus.
However, in August 2020, he returned with video entitled “What happened to SeaNanners? Why I left the internet,” explaining ‘In 2018, that was probably the darkest year of my life. I had a lot of emotional debt that had not been paid. I have dealt with anxiety and stress and depression and anger a lot in my life.” In short, he’d been working too hard, with little thought for his own, personal needs, and those of his partner. They’d actually moved to Austin, Texas, in hopes of a renewed start. His current activity is much reduced, telling fans that he has another income source, unconnected to YouTube.

Personal Life and Social Media
For his personal life, it is known that Montoya was in a relationship with fellow YouTuber Cathy Diep from 2011, and they eventually married in 2022. The two often collaborated on videos as she played with him on several occasions alongside other friends. She was the first to become inactive from her online accounts – her channel was focused on lifestyle, food, DIY videos, to name a few.
Prior to his inactivity, he was like many YouTube personalities, actively posting on social media. He has an account on Twitter which mainly promoted his YouTube channels and videos though it has not been active since 2018, at around the same time he stopped posting to his YouTube channel. He also has an Instagram account, but hasn’t posted anything on it. It’s unknown if the account previously had photos which were later deleted, or if he didn’t bother to use the website after its creation. There are a few photos of him available on Cathy’s account, but which has also been inactive for a few years.
