Troy Francis Farshi, better known under his professional name of Troy Gentile, was born in Boca Raton, Florida USA, on 27 October 1993, so under the zodiac sign of Scorpio and holding American nationality – Troy came under the spotlight due to his acting skills, initially thanks to his role of Mark in the “Hotel for Dogs” family comedy movie shot in 2009.

Early life and education

Troy spent only the first four years of his childhood in Florida, as his family moved to live in Los Angeles, California. Troy prefers to keep his parents Albert Farshi and Debbie Gentile away from the media’s attention, and has only shared a couple of details regarding them – his father was born in Iran, while his mother was born in the US after her parents moved there from Italy.

Troy fell in love with acting at a very young age, and as his parents supported him and his dreams, he managed to win his first role at the age of 12. Troy was very popular while attending high school, thanks to the fact that he was already steadily working on his career of an actor – after he matriculated, he enrolled at the community college but as he became more focused on his acting career he dropped out, but is planning on obtaining his degree in the future.

Career of an actor

Troy won his first role when he appeared as Matthew Hooper in the “Bad News Bear” movie shot in 2005 – his first role is considered to be one of his best performances, and it won him the joint Young Artist Award for the best performance by an ensemble in a feature film (it is the only award Troy has so far won while he was nominated for two others in 2006 and 2008).

He went on to win roles in “Nacho Libre” and “Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny” movie shot in 2006, while he also made his TV series debut in the same year, in “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” and then in “Zip”. He went on to play Nathan in a single episode of the “Fugly” TV series in 2007, and appeared in four movies in the same year, including “9 Lives of Mara”, “I Could Never Be Your Woman”, “Order Up” (short movie), and “Good Luck Chuck”. Troy went on to play Mitchell Levine in the “Entourage” TV series, and then appeared in “Pineapple Express” and “Drillbit Taylor” movies all shot in 2008 – in 2009, he won the role of Mark in the “Hotel for Dogs” TV movie which also made him popular in the US and Europe.

In 2010, Troy was playing R. J. Paxton in a single episode of the “Hawthorne” TV series and in 2011 had his last role in a movie in the “Pig Lady” film. In 2013, Troy started playing Barry Goldberg in “The Goldbergs” TV series, through to its finale in May 2023 – the show made Troy famous on several continents. Troy  appeared in several  other TV series in recent years – he played a kid at a party in “The Middle” in 2015, and Barry Goldberg in “Schooled” in 2019. Troy is one of the most secretive people in the film industry, as he hasn’t shared any details regarding any women he might have dated throughout the years – however, his secrecy has only led people to start rumors and create their own theories, and a rumor stating that Troy is gay began circulating the internet. Troy allegedly knows about the rumor, but is not interested in addressing the matter and there is currently no proof that the popular actor is gay, nor that he is entirely straight.

Another rumor has it that Troy was dating an actress in 2014 – he and AJ Michalka acted together in “The Goldbergs” TV series, and because they were quite fond of one another in the show and were also spending time together off set, people started believing that the two were dating.

Neither Troy nor Michalka have commented on this, and therefore it isn’t known whether the two were ever romantically linked. Judging by his social media accounts and his secrecy, Troy is currently single, hasn’t married, and has no children.

Troy is currently 25 years old. He has short curly black hair, brown eyes, and is 5ft 8ins (1.73m) tall while his weight isn’t known – Troy was overweight at the start of his career, but was steadily working on losing weight, and is doing quite well today.
