After he matriculated from high school, Troy enrolled at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and later became part of the Academy Repertory Company.
Career of an actor
Troy’s career was launched as soon as he was finished with the American Academy of Dramatic Arts – his first notable role was in the “Steal This Movie” shot in 2000 in which he played the father of Abbie Hoffman who is the founder of Yippie.
He rose to prominence after he played Isaac Rosenberg in the “Barbershop” comedy movie in 2002 – the producers were pleased with his performance, and he was therefore cast again in “Barbershop 2: Bask in Business” in 2004, and eventually in “Barbershop: The Next Cut” in 2016.
In 2003, he appeared in the “Soldier’s Girl” movie, which made him somewhat famous as his performance earned him a nomination for the Golden Globe Award, while he won the Young Hollywood Award for a Standout Performance.
Another one of his notable roles was Harvey in the “Sunshine” movie shot in 2007, while he was also praised for his role in the “Lake City” in 2008. In 2011, Troy appeared in 18 episodes of the “Boss” TV series, and then won a significant role in the “Gangster Squad” movie shot in 2013.

Troy might be very interested in film and his biggest passion, but there are other things he likes and enjoys doing in his free time.
Troy loves to travel and has been all around the US, while he mostly enjoys spending his time in nature, including forests and mountains. He is very fond of music and has been to numerous concerts throughout the years, while his favorite genres are jazz and old-school rock.
He likes to exercise and mostly does it when it is time to get ready for a new role – he is known for being versatile when it comes to roles, and for being able to change his physique to adapt to the role he is to play.
