Early life and education
Todd was raised in Massachusetts by his mother Debbie Grinnell who is a theatre actress, and his father who doesn’t appear to have been around while Todd was growing up. Todd has a younger brother named Taylor Grinnell, and the two became interested in acting together while at high school, both appearing in school plays.
Upon matriculation, Todd began appearing in local theatre plays, took drama lessons improving his acting skills, and enrolled at Pitzer College located in Claremont, California from which he obtained his bachelor’s degree in 1998. While there, he was physically very active playing several sports such as football and basketball, while also running track, and practicing writing.

Todd appeared in numerous plays while he was at college, and after graduation as well, and then made his debut film appearance in 2002 in “Lost Soul”, while his next role followed in 2004 in “The Dangling Conversation” short film.
He gained some recognition after he played Times reporter in the “Hollywoodland” biography crime drama movie in 2006 ,which follows a detective as he examines the mysterious death of George Reeves, star of the TV series “Adventures of Superman”. Todd has appeared in only four more movies since – “Dorfman in Love” and “Blind” both in 2011, and “Nesting” in 2012.

Todd is better known for his appearances in TV series, and has appeared in many over the years, altough mostly in single episodes. He made his debut appearance in the “Mad About You” episode of “Love, Inc.” in 2005, before appearing in “Robot Chicken” and “The Game” in 2006, and winning the role of Jason in “Four Kings” for which he is popular today after appearing in 13 episodes.
The story follows four friends – Barry, Ben, Jason, and Bobby – who call themselves ‘Four Kings of New York’, and who all move in to live together. He won many roles in 2007, such as in “Criminal Minds”, “The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning”, and “The Wedding Bells” among others. His next notable role came in 2008, when he played Anthony Gibbons in two episodes of “Eli Stone”, and then appeared in six episodes of “Desperate Housewives”, portraying Dr. Alex Cominis.
Once again, he went on a spree, in single episodes of six TV series, some of which are “Human Target” and “Rules of Engagement” in 2011, before appearing in four episodes of the “Jane By Design” comedy drama TV series, which follows a case of mistaken identity that has a high school loner also living a double life as a twenty-odd year-old career girl in the fashion world.
In 2013, Todd was cast to play Dale Gordon in the “Wanted” episode of “Nikita”, and then in 2014 played Gavin Hope in “Reckless”, while his next important role came in 2017 when he was invited to play Dwayne Patrick ‘Pat’ Schneider in the “One Day at a Time” comedy TV series.
The story follows three generations of a Cuban-American family who are living in the same house, including a newly divorced mother, her daughter and son, and her old-school mother. Todd has now appeared in 39 episodes in the on-going series.

Todd met India de Beaufort in 2012 on the set of the “Jane by Design” – the two share a similar sense of humor, and became somewhat best friends in only a couple of weeks. After around a month, Todd asked India to go out on date with her answering ‘What took you so long?’? They were together for nearly three years before marrying on 29 August 2015.
India gave birth to their son Crosby James Grinnell sometime in 2017, and the family of three is currently living in Massachusetts.
