Upon matriculation, Tristan enrolled into the University of Texas, Austin and there continued playing for the Texas Longhorns basketball team. He spent there only the 2010-11 season, averaging 13.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, and winning the MVP award, and USBWA All-District VII and Big 12 Freshman of the Year honours. He was also named Second-team All-Big 12.
Professional Career
Tristan Thompson was selected as the fourth overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, and made his debut in the match against the Toronto Raptors in December.
He finished his first season averaging 8.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in 60 games, for which he was named to the 2011 NBA All-Rookie Second Team. In 2015, he led the team to reach the NBA Finals, although they lost to the Golden State Warriors. Tristan came to prominence after leading them once again to the 2016 NBA Finals, when they again faced the Golden State Warriors, and defeated them in the seven games series. Tristan has also pursued an international career, representing Canada at the 2008 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship, winning the bronze medal, and the 2009 2009 FIBA Under-19 World Championship.
