Life and Career
At a young age, Jacqueline became interested in pursuing a career as an actress. As a teen, she had a minor role in the film “In Like Flint”, which is a parody spy film and the sequel to “Our Man Flint”. She continued her education, and later on didn’t pursue an acting career, but instead found a lot of opportunities as a model.
It wasn’t until 1980 that she had her next professional acting role in “The Killings at Outpost Zeta”, a science fiction film depicting a team traveling to a barren world to investigate the death of previous expeditions. She also made a guest appearance in the television show “Magnum, P.I.” when it was just starting to gain traction on television; the series follows the life of a private investigator living in Hawaii.
One of the last acting projects she worked on before retiring from the entertainment industry was the show “Unfabulous”.
The show follows the story of a middle school student, and for a time, it was one of the most-watched television shows in the US in 2004, running for three years before being canceled.
Ex-Husband – Tom Selleck
Tom Selleck is of German and English descent, with his family traced back to being one of the colonists of Massachusetts. At a young age, he showed talents in basketball and played with his team in Grant High School. After matriculating, he enrolled at the Los Angeles Valley College, and then took advantage of a scholarship which saw him transfer to the University of Southern California.
During his senior year, he was encouraged to pursue acting, and so dropped out to study at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.
His acting career was then put on hold as he was drafted during the Vietnam War, serving in the California National Guard from 1967 to 1973. Upon his return, he began appearing in commercials for Pepsi, and then started to take small roles in films, including “The Seven Minutes”, and TV series such as ”The Rockford Files”. He also continued commercial work with companies such as Close-Up, Right Guard, and Salem cigarettes.
He later started to take roles in Western films due to his interest in firearms, working on “The Shadow Riders” and “Concrete Cowboys”.
Tom Selleck’s Rise to Fame
While Selleck consistently gained support roles in films, he struggled for the most part as he couldn’t gain a breakthrough role for many years, and it wasn’t until he was cast in “Magnum P.I.”, though his commitment to the show also cost him a chance to become Indiana Jones. He started playing Thomas Magnum in 1980 and the show would run for eight seasons, with his performance earning him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1984.
He became an icon through his character look, wearing a Hawaiian aloha shirt and a Detroit Tigers baseball cap, and having his signature mustache. By the end of the show, it had become one of the top-rated series on television. He continued taking high profile roles in the 1990s, gaining a recurring role in “Friends” as Richard Burke and becoming the lead character for “The Closer”. One of his latest projects is the television show “Blue Bloods”, becoming the star 2010 in the series which follows the lives of a family of police officers working in the New York City Police Department.
