Virginia Donald was born in Mississippi USA, in 1966, and is a TV personality and a socialite, but perhaps best known as the ex-wife of Shepard Smith, a news broadcaster who worked for the Fox News network.
Early life and education
Virginia was raised in Mississippi by her parents, who were both high school teachers – she matriculated from the very high school her parents were teaching in. Virginia then enrolled at the University of Mississippi’s Meek School of Journalism and Acting, from which she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1988.
Career as a journalist and other endeavors
Virginia became a housewife after marrying Shepard Smith in 1987, and did not start working on her career until after their divorce. She has been working as a journalist for years now, and often writes columns for several US magazines. She has tested her luck in the film industry as well, cast in supporting roles in short movies and TV commercials, but hasn’t so far had a breakthrough role.

Shepard was born to cotton merchant David Shepard Smith Senior, and Dora Ellen Anderson who worked as an English teacher – Shepard was educated at Marshall Academy in his hometown. His parents divorced shortly after he finished high school, and he went to live in Florida with his mother Dora.
However, he moved back to study journalism at the University of Mississippi, but quit while being only two credits away from graduating. He’s still very supportive of the university, and returns each year during its football season, delivering the commencement speech at the university on 10 May 2008. His first job was for the WJHG-TV station in 1986, where he worked as a reporter before switching to WBBH-TV in Fort Myers in Florida. From there, he moved to become an anchor and a reporter for the WSVN network and then the WCPX-TV in Orlando, Florida.

He subsequently became a correspondent for “A Current Affair” TV news magazine program, before joining the Fox News Channel in 1996. Shepard covered numerous important stories during his tenure with Fox News, including the death of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997 – he covered the ballot-counting controversy in Florida in November 2000, and in 2001 the execution of Timothy McVeigh, an American domestic terrorist. He also covered the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in the summer of 2005. Shepard’s TV show – “The Fox Report with Shepard Smith” – became the third most watched and best ranked US cable news program, while Smith became the second most trusted news anchor on TV.
He became the host of his new show “Shepard Smith Reporting” in October 2013, when “Studio B” and “The Fox Report” shows stopped airing. There’s been some controversy surrounding Shepard after he declared the Uranium One scandal as false and untrue in November 2017 – after people expressed their opinion about how he is clueless about the matter, Shepard stated ‘I get it, that some of our opinion programming is there strictly to be entertaining. I get that. I don’t work there. I wouldn’t work there’. The Uranium One scandal has so far not been resolved, and there is no evidence of any wrongdoing surrounding the matter.
Shepard announced his leaving Fox News on 11 October 2019, while it’s believed that he will continue to work for other networks as an anchor and a reporter.
