While attending Copperas Cove High School, he was playing football, basketball, and ran track, excelling in all three sports – he broke two state records in track and was in 2007 named the best high school 400-meter runner.
Numerous college football teams from Nebraska, Tennessee, and Illinois wanted to recruit him as soon as he matriculated, and he initially signed with Houston but switched to Baylor after the head coach of Houston, Art Briles moved to coach there – while at college, Robert set new records for track, and began playing football for the Bears.
