Early life, family, educational background
Matthew Edward Lowe was born on 24 September 1993, in Los Angeles, California USA. He is an American photographer, explorer and reality television personality. He is Rob Lowe and Sheryl Berkoff’s eldest child – Rob is a famous actor, and Sheryl a makeup artist. Matthew has a younger brother by two years, John Owen Lowe. His grandparents are lawyer, Charles D Lowe and Barbara Hepler.
His uncle is Chad Lowe, a famous actor and director, who won an Emmy for his performance in “Life Goes On,” wherein he played a young man dealing with his HIV diagnosis.
In 2012 Matthew attended Duke University, and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in History with a minor in Political Science. Currently, he is studying law at Loyola Marymount University.

His mom, Sheryl, was born on 20 June 1961, in Los Angeles, California US. She is the owner of “Sheryl Lowe Jewellery.” Matthew and John Owen are seemingly close. The “Lowe Files” gave them an opportunity to spend more time together and bond. In June 2017 he told People magazine, ‘It really just felt like a fun trip we were on, and cameras just happened to be around.’ His cousins are Mabel Painter Lowe and Fiona Hepler Lowe.
Who is Rob Lowe?
Rob Lowe is an American director, actor and producer, born on 17 March 1964 in Charlottesville, Virginia to Charles Lowe and Barbara Hepler, he is of English, Irish, German, Welsh and Scottish descent; they have another son together, Chad. When Rob and Chad were young, their parents divorced, but they were raised in a traditional American home in Dayton, Ohio US, and attended Oakwood Junior High School. The brothers then moved to Point Dume, Malibu, California with their mother, where they attended Santa Monica High School, and Rob met future star Charlie Sheen. In Rob’s autobiography, “Stories I Only Tell My Friends,” he reminisced on their time at school, ‘We were both nerds… he wanted to be a baseball player.”
When he was 15, he made his acting debut in ABC’s “A New Kind of Family,” which aired from 1979 to 1980. In the 1980s, he was known as a member of the “Brat Pack,” a group of young actors who frequently appeared together in teen-oriented movies, and which provided him with an abundance of opportunities. He appeared in several films, including 1983’s “The Outsiders,” 1984’s “The Hotel New Hampshire,” 1985’s “St. Elmo’s Fire,” 1986’s “About Last Night…” and 1987’s “Square Dance”; all were highly successful and promoted Rob’s reputation in the industry.
In 1988, Rob was involved in a serious controversial story. Sex tapes of himself and a 16-year-old girl were leaked, and soon after another sex tape showed him engaging in explicit activities with Jennifer, an American model.
These sexual exploits greatly damaged his reputation and career. However, his decline didn’t last long, and at the start of the ’90s, Rob appeared in breakthrough roles in various television series. He played in NBC’s political drama, “West Wing” as Sam Seaborn from 1999-2003, winning two Golden Globe Awards and one Primetime Emmy Award. From 2006-2010 he played Robert McCallister in ABC’s drama “Brothers & Sisters,” then moved to NBC’s sitcom, “Parks and Recreation” as Chris Traeger until 2014. From 2015 to 2018, he played Ethan Willis on CBS’s medical drama, “Code Black”.
Meantime in 2017 he featured in the A&E reality series, “The Lowe Files” with his sons, before in 2018 making his directorial debut with the film, “The Bad Seed,” a remake of the 1956 film.
In total, Rob has won one Primetime Emmy Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and been nominated for six Golden Globe Awards. With regards to Rob’s personal life, he met his future wife, Sheryl, in 1983 on a blind date. They only crossed paths again six years later whilst on the set of “Bad Influence” – Rob played the lead and Sheryl was the makeup artist. Sheryl was Rob’s pillar of support during his fight against his alcohol addiction – the couple wed on 22 July 1991, and have been married ever since. In the non-fiction series, “The Lowe Files,” Matthew plays himself alongside his brother, John and their father.
The series first aired in late 2017, and follows the trio as they travel through the US, unravelling unsolved mysteries and spooky legends. Although they had described the show as fun and light-hearted, A&E Network described it as ‘deliberate and scientific investigations on a highly-sophisticated level’, adding that the Lowes took in-depth training courses and used advanced monitoring equipment. Rob developed a passion for mysteries and urban legends from a very young age, and he passed on this passion to his sons.
On the show, they train with government operatives and work with a renowned shaman at an abandoned boys’ reformatory.

The government operatives train the Lowes in methods to help identify images even at far distances. Each episode is around 30-minutes long, and occasionally features guest stars famous in the legends and common urban myths. Topics covered include Sasquatch/Bigfoot, alien abduction, ghosts and apparent ‘submerged’ objects off the coast of Los Angeles. They also discuss the possible connection between paranormal entities and direct human response to stimuli. Matthew has appeared in several talk shows, including “Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Entertainment Tonight,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “The Insider.” He has worked as an intern at Constellis and Irell & Manella LLP. For two years he worked at William Morris Endeavor as a Business Affairs Intern, and since 2018 he has been working at Russ, August and Kabat as a Summer Law Clerk.

Having grown up in the same industry, he is close friends with Patrick Schwarzenegger, son of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is currently in a relationship with Christina Tribull. She lives in New York City, and works in Polo Ralph Lauren’s Global Marketing department, having graduated from Duke University with a Marketing degree.
