Wendy Barlow was born in Canada on 7 May 1960 – her zodiac sign is Taurus and she holds Canadian nationality. Wendy was a professional tennis player, and is also known for being the fifth wife of Ric Flair, the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) legend.

Education and early life

Wendy was born into a sporting family, and spent her childhood in Canada while often competing at tennis tournaments in the US – her father Bob Barlow was a hockey player who competed in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Minnesota North Stars team. Her mother’s name is Marilyn, and Wendy has a brother and a sister named Hugh and Lori respectively.

Wendy was 10 years old when she became a participant in the Victoria Parks tennis program – she went on to win several Canadian Junior Tennis Championships, and at the age of 13 won the Girls’ 14 doubles playing with Lori, her sister. She won the competition again in 1974 as well as Girls’ 14 singles. In 1975, she won Girls’ 16 doubles and singles, and at the time was ranked third best under 18 player in Canada. Wendy graduated from university with a bachelor’s degree in international law in 1982.

Career as a tennis player

Turning 18 she began competing in the Girls’ 18 singles and won in both 1977 and 1978, ranking #12 internationally in the category.

She became All-American Champion in 1978, and that year played her first Wimbledon, but lost to Helen Cawley from Australia who beat her in the first round. She competed at the Dallas Women’s Professional Tournament in 1979, losing to Chris Evert, but in 1980 she won the Canadian National Championship. In 1987, she served as the captain of the Canadian Federation Cup team, playing in Federation Cup matches.

The city of Victoria, British Columbia gave Wendy the title of the female athlete of the year 1978, while the national governing body Tennis Canada named her coach of the year in 1986.  In 2003, Wendy was inducted into the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame.

Ric is suffering from a heart condition called alcoholic cardiomyopathy, and had to undergo surgery on 14 August 2017, during which an obstructive piece of his bowel was removed – the surgery led to serious complications such as kidney failure leading to dialysis treatment, so he spent more than a month in hospital, including ten days on life support before being discharged.

Wendy is a big fan of the film industry, and the actor and actress she enjoys watching the most are Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep. Travelling is her favorite hobby, and her tennis career has taken her all around Canada, the US and Europe, while Paris is her dream holiday destination.

Wendy is taking good care of her appearance and her looks, as she’s following a strict diet, but her favorite foods are still pizza, fries, and ice cream.
