He launched his career as a rapper in December 2005 when he released his first mixtape entitled “Slauson Boy Volume 1” – he signed with Cinematic Music Group and then Epic Records in 2006, and in 2008 created his “Bullets Ain’t Got No Name” series of mixtapes. He became more popular after his collaboration with Drake on his “Killer” song, after which he also worked with rappers Problem and Snoop Dogg.

In 2010, he left Epic Records and launched his All Money In record label – his first mixtape in the “All Money In Records” series of mixtapes was released on 21 December 2010 and is entitled “The Marathon”. He released the second installment of the series on 1 November 2011 called “The Marathon Continues”, then in April 2012 worked with the rapper Blanco on his album “Raw”. Nipsey announced his first solo album – “Victory Lap” – in August 2013, but the album wasn’t released until 16 February 2018 – it landed at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 53,000 copies in the first week of its sales.

Nipsey sang to give black boys and men inspiration, and to show them solutions to problems – he sang against gun violence, and to motivate people to do community work. He arranged a meeting with the Los Angeles Police Department in March 2019, and it was supposed to be held on 1 April, however, he was murdered one day before – ironically, the meeting was supposed to discuss matters such as preventing gang violence in LA.

He was a bit of an actor, as he appeared in the “I Tried” autobiographical film in 2007, and in 2010 starred in the “Caged Animal” movie. In 2015, he appeared in an episode of the “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” TV series.
