Lionel is a singer, songwriter, and an actor, best known for his singles such as “Hello” and “Say You, Say Me”. Lionel was raised in Tuskegee by his mother Alberta R. Foster and his father Lionel Brockman Richie Sr. – he attended Joilet Township High School, East Campus in Illinois.
He played tennis at high school, and began attending Tuskegee Institute on a tennis scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics 1972 – he was apparently planning on becoming a priest in the Episcopal Church, but eventually launched a career as a singer.
