John was born with the spina bifida birth defect, and underwent surgery while he was still an infant – he became interested in music at the age of six, and founded his Crepe Soul band after turning 14. He signed to Columbia records in 1998, and released three albums entitled “John Mellencamp”, “Rough Harvest”, and “Trouble No More”. He has since released several more albums, including “Plain Spoken”, “Sad Clowns & Hillbillies”, and “Other People’s Stuff”.
John is currently residing five kilometers from Bloomington, Indiana, near Lake Monroe, while he also has houses on Daufuskie Island in South Carolina, and in New York City.
