Childhood and education
Shane spent only a bit of his childhood in Idaho, as the family moved to live in Homer, Alaska shortly after he was born. He was raised by his father Atz Kilcher, a musician and a TV personality, and his mother who was a singer, but his parents divorced when he was six, and his father married Bonnie Dupree, who can often be seen appearing in the “Alaska: The Last Frontier” show.
Shane is of Swiss descent, as his grandparents Ruth and Yule Weber came from Switzerland when World War II began.
Career as a reality TV star and other ventures
Between 1997 and 2010, Shane worked on the Clearwater Project, which spread to 18 countries over the course of years, such as Tibet, Mexico, and many African countries – the goal of the project is simply to provide people with fresh clean water, not always easy! Shane is best known for starring in the “Alaska: The Last Frontier” series, alongside the rest of the family. He became part of the main cast in 2012, when the second season of the show began airing.
In 2018, Shane fell while he was working on his house, which caused several injuries leading to him not appearing in the show for a couple of months– after the fall, he was taken to Central Peninsula Hospital where doctors discovered that he had a horizontal fracture in his L2 vertebra. The show follows the lives of the entire Kilcher family, as they live away from civilization 11 miles outside of Homer – it counts nine seasons and 140 episodes.

Shane met Kelly Ware during his fourth year at high school, and the two began dating before matriculation. They were together for three years before marrying in the summer of 1992.
His wife Kelly is from Anchorage ,Alaska and she continued her education by enrolling at Maric College in 1999, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. The two are parents to four children, named Keena Tarik, Jareth, Reid and Jenna.

Shane enjoys the life he has away from civilization, living with his family as they grow their own food as well as hunt for meat. Shane mostly enjoys doing physical work, such as building things and working on his house, but also helping the rest of the family with whatever they need. Jewel is a singer, songwriter, producer, and an actress among other things, but best known for her songs such as “Who Will Save Your Soul” and “You Were Meant for Me”. When she was born, her father was attending Brigham Young University – she was only two years old when the family moved to live in Alaska. One of the first songs she learned how to sing was “Saint Louis Blues”, and seeing her talent, her father got her to sing with him in taverns and roadhouses to make some money. At the age of fifteen, she began taking dancing classes, and eventually won a scholarship at the Interlochen Arts Academy, studying operatic voice.
After turning sixteen, she began writing her own songs, and performed live in coffee places in Michigan. She moved to San Diego in California at the age of 17, where she worked several jobs while making her way up in the music industry.

She became popular all around the US, after she was chosen to open Super Bowl XXXII in January 1998 by singing the American national anthem. In the same year, she published her “A Night Without Armor” book of poetry, which became a New York Times’ best seller. Her second album “Spirit” was also released in 1998, and it reached #3 on the Billboard 200 – its single “Hands” reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She went on to release many albums, with her fifth being “0304” in 2003, and she also launched her acting career around the same time. She founded the Jewel Incorporated platform in 2016, which was used for her music and film appearances.
In 2017, she appeared in two mystery films – “Concrete Evidence: A Fixer Upper Mystery” and “Framed for Murder: A Fixer Upper Mystery”. Jewel is a philanthropist, who founded the Higher Ground for Humanity charity organization with the help of her mother – the organization has the goal of offering education and building alliances between people and other organizations. She was donating part of her income to it, and was in charge of organizating events before the foundation closed in 2005.
