Everyone who knows Eminem knows his ex-wife, and the supposed love of his life – Kimberly Scott, who is always called just “Kim”. Their life-long up-and-down relationship became the source of multiple rumors, gossip and newspaper headlines, and also the source of inspiration for dozens of songs Marshall Mathers wrote during his 20-year-long music career.

Early life and family

Kimberly Anne Scott was born under the zodiac sign of Capricorn on 9 January 1975, in Warren, Michigan USA – she holds American nationality, . Kim was born with her twin sister, Dawn to mother Kathleen Scott – their biological father’s name is unknown, while their step-father is Casimer Sluck.

When Kim and Dawn were about four years old, their father left and Kathleen found another partner, Casimer, who soon started to live in their house. However, both Casimer and Kathleen were alcohol addicted, and their mutual passion for drinking saw Kim and Dawn run away at the age of 13. Kim has shared in her multiple interviews that they escaped unbearable domestic violence.

Educational background

Kim matriculated from Lincoln High School, located in Warren; it was there that she met her future husband Marshall Mathers, now known as Eminem. He dropped out of the school at 17, while Kim made it to matriculation, but has never enrolled into college. During her last year in school, Kim lived in a trailer with Eminem and his mother Deborah, who agreed to the young girl living with them.

First marriage with Eminem

Kim started dating Eminem In 1989, after they met several times at school, and saw each other at their mutual friends’ parties. After Kim moved into Eminem’s trailer when she was only 14, they lived together for six years until their daughter Hailie Jade was born on 25 December 1995. The scandals and arguments surfaced more often, and in 1996 Kim left Eminem with Hailie in her arms, finding a one-bedroom apartment, while Eminem continued living with his mother. Within a year the couple resumed living together, and subsequently married in 1999, apparently hoping that the marriage license could hold them together, however, they broke-up again in 2000, and the divorce was finalized in 2001.

The “Kim” song

All Eminem’s fans got the detailed picture of what was going on in their personal life, when the horrorcore “Kim” was released in 2000. Recorded in 1999, it told the story of Kim’s cheating on Eminem. In the lyrics, after putting their daughter to sleep, Eminem accused his wife of having sex with her lover in their bed; then the text of the track portrays Eminem beating his unfaithful wife, putting her into a trunk, driving her deep into a forest and after an unsuccessful attempt by her to run away, Eminem catches and ‘kills’ Kim, burying her right there. After Kim heard the song at Eminem’s show in Detroit, where she happened to appear, she filed a suit for $10 million.

She had filed for divorce a few days before she attended the show, so Eminem was sure she just wanted to find another reason to get more money from him.

Eminem wrote several more songs about his relationship with Kim, but they were not so dark and depressive. The first was entitled “Searchin”, released on his first album “Infinite” (1996) and the second was called “97 Bonnie and Clyde”, included on his second album “The Slim Shady LP” (1999). The critics were very careful reviewing this song, only admitting the strength of Eminem’s feelings to Kim, since he wrote such a depressive, aggressive and emotionally unstable song, which still ends with the words ‘I don’t wanna go on living in this world without you’.

Side affairs, three biological kids plus one adopted

While Kim was away from Eminem, she had several relationships with other men. One of them was their mutual friend, John Guerrera who she kissed in a parking lot, witnessed by Eminem Even though Kim and Eminem were not together at that moment, he rushed at Kim’s lover and beat him with a gun, for which he was arrested but later released. The episode was then mentioned in Eminem’s song “Sing For The Moment”: ‘You’re full of s*** too, Guerrera, that was a fist that hit you’; he also portrayed this situation in the skit “The Kiss”.

From her short relationship with Eric Hartter, she gave birth to her daughter Whitney Scott.

Eric stayed away from Kim and their daughter, so when Eminem and Kim reunited, Eminem officially adopted Whitney. Kim also has a son named Parker Scott from another affair she had with a man whose name is unknown. When her sister Dawn died of a drug overdose, Kim and Eminem adopted Dawn’s daughter, Alana Marie Scott, who is now living with Eminem and her two sisters he takes care of with full custody.

Hailie was mentioned many times in her father’s songs – one of them is the lullaby-styled “The Mockingbird”, in which Eminem admits he didn’t have enough time to spend with his daughter when she was little, but he did his best to earn as much money as he could to make her life a good one: ‘Hailie I know you miss your mom and I know you miss your dad / Well I’m gone but I’m trying to give you the life that I never had /I can see you’re sad, even when you smile, even when you laugh / I can see it in your eyes, deep inside you want to cry’.

Second marriage with Eminem

Kim married Eminen for the second time in 2006.

She shared that she agreed to go through with the ceremony, as the wedding was scheduled for the date of the 15th anniversary of their relationship, but she didn’t want to sign any papers, asking Eminem to skip the marriage license, as she felt they would split again, and didn’t want her kids to undergo the process of their divorce. However, Eminem insisted on signing the papers, but then left in one month, filing for divorce.

Drug addiction, suicide attempt

Kim has apparently suffered from strong drug addiction since 2002 , taking cocaine and being caught driving drunk, while her husband had problems with prescribed pills, such as Vicodin and Valium. Kim’s sister, Dawn, died in 2016 from a drug overdose, but it had little effect on Kim. In 2015 she supposedly  tried to commit suicide, taking a bunch of pills, cocaine and driving her car right into a pole: ‘It was intentional, I sat at the end of a road where I knew no one else but myself would get hurt.

Yes, I drank, I took pills and I aimed for a pole’. She also admitted that she did it because she felt lonely, and had nobody left by her side, though she had enough money to pay the bills and buy her kids everything they asked for, but it didn’t make any sense 24 her.

Kim has middle-length light brown hair and blue eyes, but her prolonged drug addiction made her hair and skin look very old. Kim is 5ft 7ins (1.74m) tall and weighs around 150lbs (68kgs).
