He was a finalist for the Dudley Award, and was recognized as a unanimous First-team All-American during his senior year.
He entered his final college season under the watch lists of numerous awards, and won the 2007 Hendricks Awards which is given to the country’s top defensive end.
Chris Long’s NFL Career
Long joined the 2008 NFL draft, and was picked as the second overall selection by the St. Louis Rams. He soon showed his ability to play multiple positions, and was even considered for a starter role in defense, one that he rejected as he felt the need to earn his position. He was signed to a $56.5 million contract for six years, and started gaining attention even as a rookie.
He became a defensive end as the years progressed ,was voted for numerous honors. In 2012, he signed a four year extension with the Rams worth $50 million, and led the team in several statistics once more. He was voted to the Pro Bowl for the third time in his career, and was named to the USA Football All-Fundamental Team.
