Tamara Hurwitz was born on 7 January 1970, in Los Angeles, California USA, and is a dancer and performer, but who came under the spotlight after marrying American film and stage actor Bill Pullman.
Education and childhood
Although of mixed ethnicity, including Dutch-Jewish, Tamara was born to Norwegian parents who moved to the US not long before she was born. Her father was an art educator and a painter, who literally died in her arms in 2012 aged 91, while her mother died two years later.
She began dancing when still very young, but apparently started to perform as a professional only at the age of 28.
Career as a dancer and an actress
Tamara has performed all around the US during more than three decades of her dancing career; she was a member of the Jose Limon Dance Company which performed mostly in New York City. Tamara was also a member of the Pacific Dance Ensemble, which had performances in Oregon. For a brief period of time she was dancing with the Rosanna Gamson Worldwide group, which performed around Los Angeles.
Tamara began working with her long-term friend Tracy Penfield sometime in the ‘80s, and the two finalized their “Passing” project in 2018 – it was inspired by the death of their loved ones, in Tamara’s case her parents, and their project took them five years to finish. It premiered at Randolph’s Chandler Center for the Arts on 28 April. She is also an actress, as has appeared in several movies over the years, such as “A League of Their Own” shot in 1992, “Casper” released in 1995, and “Independence Day” starring Will Smith in 1996.
Tamara played a role in two documentary movies – the first in “The Fruit Hunters” acting alongside her husband Bill, which follows the connection (even emotional) between a man and his food, and was released in 2012. Two years later in 2014, she appeared in the “Parables of War” short documentary which also starred her husband, and discusses the consequences of war and what comes after it. Tamara’s latest appearance was in the “Healing Wars” theatrical dance piece, which was performed for the first time in June 2014.

Tamara and Bill Pullman met during one of her performances, and went on a date shortly afterwards. They exchanged their wedding vows years later in 1987, and their daughter named Maesa came a year later; son Jack followed in 1989. Five years later on 29 January 1993, Tamara gave birth to their second son named Lewis.
All of their children have been successful in various fields, as Maesa plays the banjo, is a singer and a songwriter; Jack is a puppeteer and is skilled at making puppets, while Lewis has made his way into the film industry – some of his most notable appearances have been in “The Ballad of Lefty Brown”, “Lean on Pete”, and “Aftermath”, all shot in 2017.
