Growing Up in Different Countries
Koren Grieveson was raised alongside a sister by her parents. Her father was involved in the poultry business and had to travel around the world, so the family had to move frequently. Koren spent her early years growing up in several countries, including Angola, Zimbabwe, Brazil, Iran, and England. At the age of ten, she eventually settled down with her family in Glastonbury, Connecticut in the US. Koren holds both Angolan and American nationality and is of white ethnicity.
From Military to Culinary Career
At the age of 17, Koren started serving in the U.S. Army. In an interview for ‘Food & Wine’, she revealed the main reason for her joining the army was her huge desire to drive their jeeps.
After serving for eight years, Koren became involved in the hospitality industry. She initially worked as a part of a catering outfit, and was in charge of providing food and drinks for various music events held in New Jersey and New York, including the rock concerts of The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, and Lollapalooza. She worked that job until she decided to attend the Culinary Institute of America, which is located in Hyde Park, New York, and there she obtained her degree in 1997.
Professional Career as an Executive Chef
Koren Grieveson started her professional culinary career in 1996, when she began working at the restaurant “Aqua” under Chef Michael Mina in San Francisco. Thereafter, she worked at “Spurce” under Chef Keith Luce, which was followed by her employment at “Crofton on Wheel” under Chef Suzy Crofton.
In 1998 she was engaged to work as a Sous Chef under Executive Chef Paul Kahan for “Blackbird”, a restaurant located in Chicago, Illinois. In 2003, she was appointed as the Executive Chef de Cuisine at Kahan’s wine bar “Avec”, which is also located in Chicago, also serving there in the position of the floor manager, until she resigned in 2012.
Koren eventually opened her own restaurant called “Claudette” in New York City, then the gastro bar “Resto” on Murray Hill, Manhattan, New York. In April of 2016, Koren resigned from the bar, which was closed later in August of the same year.
TV Cook Shows
In order to promote herself as an expert in making gourmet specialties, Koren has made appearances as a guest judge in an episode of the fourth season of the reality TV competition cook show “Top Chef”, aired on the Bravo network in 2008. In the following year, she appeared as a competitor in the seventh season’s episode of the cooking show “Iron Chef America: The Series”, on the Food Network.

Koren Grieveson and Anne Burrell met each other on the set of the reality TV cook series “Iron Chef America”, where both of them appeared as judges. It did not take long until they became romantically involved, which Anne confirmed during an interview on the radio show with Ted Allen in 2010. Two years later, on 31 December 2012, Koren and Anne announced their engagement via Twitter. In the following year, Anne announced in an interview for “Entertainment Tonight” that they were planning to marry in Vieques, Puerto Rico. However, they are not married yet.

She later attended the Culinary Institute of America and there earned her Associate in Occupational Studies degree in 1996. Right after graduation, Anne stayed in Italy for nine months and worked for several restaurants.

Shortly afterwards, Anne was hired as a teacher at the Institute of Culinary Education, and eventually as the Chef of the wine store “Italian Wine Merchants”, owned by Chef Mario Batali and Lidia’s son Joseph. In 2007, she moved to serve as the Executive Chef at Italian restaurant “Centro Vinoteca”, located in West Village, New York City. Three years later, she created her own series entitled “Secrets Of A Restaurant Chef”, which aired on the same network until 2012. Side by side, Anne also appeared in the show “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” in 2009, after which was chosen to be the co-host and judge in the show “Worst Cooks In America” (2010-present), both on the Food Network.
