MGK was raised in Egypt by his mother Sonia Alane and father James Colson Baker for the first four years of his life, while they then lived in Germany, Chicago, Illinois and Cleveland, Ohio; James suffered from depression and was unemployed, which led Sonia to abandon the family when MGK was only nine. He and his father then moved to Denver, Colorado where MGK was bullied because he was poor. He was 12 when he began listening to rap music, while studying at Hamilton Middle School; he progressed to Shaker Heights High School in 2004, and was mostly into listening to DMX, Eminem and Ludacris during his time there. He matriculated in 2008, and then began pursuing music rather than a college degree; he was kicked out of his father’s house as soon as he matriculated.

Another popular song from the album “Invincible” became the official theme song for WrestleMania XXVIII, while it’s today the theme song for the show “Thursday Night Football”, which airs on the National Football League (NFL) network.
