Who is Sara Carbonero?

Sara Carboreno Arevalo was born in Corral de Almaguer, Spain, on 3 February 1984 – her zodiac sign is Aquarius, and she holds Spanish nationality. She’s a sports journalist but who’s probably known best for being the former wife of Iker Casillas, a famous American retired professional soccer goalkeeper.

Early life and education

Sara was raised in Corral de Almaguer alongside her sister Irene Carbonero, by their mother Goyi Arevalo, and their father Carlos Javier Garcia Carbonero; not a lot is known about Sara’s family as she respects their privacy, but it’s said that her father was a university soccer coach, and that her mother is a former model.

Sara was mostly interested in modelling while attending a local high school, and played various sports hoping that being physically active would help shape her figure, and prepare it for her modelling career. She was 17 when she became interested in journalism, after she began writing for her school’s sports magazine.

Upon matriculating in 2002, Sara enrolled at Complutense University of Madrid, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2006.

Sara began working at Radio Marca as an intern while attending her third year of college, and was only six months later hired full-time. She spent over three years at Radio Marca, until in April 2009 invited to join the Spanish free-to-air TV channel Telecinco as their sports presenter and editor.

In 2015, Sara and her two friends launched the clothing brand Fast Love, which sells beauty products, accessories and clothes online.

Since July 2016, Sara has been hosting the fashion show “Quiero Ser” (“I Want to Be”) on Telecinco.

2010 World Cup controversy

It’s widely believed that Sara distracted Iker during a 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer match between Switzerland and Spain, and that this caused Switzerland to win. Sara and her team of reporters were standing not too far from Iker’s goal, and various British newspapers went on to write that she was to blame for the Spain’s loss, including “The Times”.

Spanish newspapers “El Mundo”, “Marca” and “El Pais” denied these claims, calling them ‘preposterous and untrue’.

Love life and marriage with Iker Casillas

Sara began dating Iker in 2009, and although they haven’t disclosed the circumstances under which they met, it’s believed that they were introduced by a mutual friend after a soccer match.

Iker Casillas Fernandez was born in Madrid, Spain on 20 May 1981 – his zodiac sign is Taurus, and he holds Spanish nationality. He’s rated one of the best goalkeepers in the history of soccer, and spent most of his career goalkeeping for Real Madrid.

He was raised in Madrid alongside his seven years younger brother Unai, by their mother Maria del Carmen Fernandez Gonzalez who was a hairdresser, and their father Jose Luis Casillas who was a civil servant at the Ministry of Education.

Iker was only nine years old when he began playing for the Real Madrid’s youth team La Fabrica, and on 27 November 1997, aged 16, he began playing for the senior team.

He spent the 1997-1998 season playing for the C-team, and in May 2000, Iker became the youngest goalkeeper in the history of soccer to play in a Champions League and win, when Real Madrid beat Valencia 3-0.

His best season in the following years was the 2007-2008, when he helped Real Madrid win their 31st La Liga title – Iker played in 36 matches and conceded only 32 goals, winning the Ricardo Zamora Trophy.
