Who is Martin Rabbett?

Martin Rabbett was apparently born on 14 May 1953, in San Mateo, California USA. He’s an actor, writer, producer and manager, but possibly best known for being the husband of actor (George) Richard Chamberlain for over 40 years. They hid their relationship for a long period, due to the fear of the negative reaction Chamberlain might attract, as one of the leading actors of his time.

The Riches of Martin Rabbett

Martin Rabbett has a net worth estimated to be over $1 million, earned through success in the entertainment industry. He served as Chamberlain’s manager for some time, and also did acting work during the 1970s. He probably benefits from the success of his husband, as Richard has a net worth estimated to be over $25 million, both figures as of mid-2024..

Life and Career

Richard and Martin started their relationship in 1977, at a time when Martin was relatively unknown, only doing a few projects compared to the success of his partner. Their partnership eventually led to starring roles in several movies – one of their most notable projects together was “Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold”, in which they portrayed brothers Allan and Robeson.

The film is based on the H. Rider Haggard novel entitled “Allan Quatermain”, and serves as the sequel to “King Solomon’s Mines”; the film also starred Sharon Stone as the character Jesse Huston. Other than their collaborative acting projects, Martin mainly served as Chamberlain’s manager, using his connections within the entertainment industry to help his partner land significant roles.

Husband – Richard Chamberlain

Richard was born on 31 March 1934 in Beverly Hills, California, where he grew up and attended Beverly Hills High School. After matriculating, he enrolled at Pomona College, completing his education there.

During this time, he developed a strong passion for acting, creating the theatre group Company of Angels. In the 1950s, he started to gain television projects, appearing in an episode of “Riverboat” in which he played a US Army Lieutenant. In 1961, his fame started increasing as he was cast in the show “Dr. Kildare” as the titular character, which established him as a strong leading character, and also showed musical prowess, releasing several hits which were featured on the show.

Five years later, he worked on the Broadway musical entitled “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” alongside Mary Tyler Moore. However, the show closed after four previews. His next project was an adaptation of “Portrait of a Lady”, which became the start of more serious roles. In 1969, he was cast as the star of “The Madwoman of Chaillot” alongside Katharine Hepburn. During the same year, he also played the titular role of “Hamlet”.

Richard Chamberlain’s Success and Latter Career

During the 1970s, Chamberlain enjoyed continuous high profile projects, becoming the leading man in many films, including “The Lady’s Not for Burning”, “The Towering Inferno”, “The Count of Monte Cristo”, and “The Man in the Iron Mask”. He also worked on television, appearing in mini-series such as “Shogun”, “The Thorn Birds”, and “Centennial”. He also became the first actor to portray Jason Bourne in 1988’s “The Bourne Identity”, and was also the lead in “King Solomon’s Mines”.

In 1989, the French women’s magazine “Nous Deux” released an article revealing that he was gay. However, he did not comment on the subject matter.

During the next few years, his work decreased as he primarily lived in Hawaii with Rabbett. He still took the occasional acting projects, working on television movies though he had a long break from bigger roles. He got back to form in the 2000s, appearing in “Scrooge: The Musical” as the title character. He also had guest roles in “Nip/Tuck” and “Desperate Housewives”, ande played the character Archie Leach during the third season of “Leverage”, plus had a two-episode role in “Chuck”.

A few of his latest projects include “Nightmare Cinema”, and “Twin Peaks” in 2018

Personal Life

Before Martin was romantically involved with Richard, his partner was involved with actor Wesley Eure during the early-1970s. He’s 19 years younger, and due to the US not having laws to support gay marriage, the two later moved to Hawaii in 1986, where they had a civil union, remaining in the state for over two decades. He was also legally adopted so that he could have a say in the future estate of his husband.

In 2010, Richard expressed a desire to commit the rest of his life back to acting, but Rabbett no longer had the same connections he used back when he was active in Hollywood. His partner took another manager who introduced him back into the fold. However, due to all the work, he decided to leave Rabbett in Hawaii and move back to California. Many media outlets saw this as a separation, though the actor commented that it was a temporary thing. Since his return, Chamberlain has been a strong supporter of LGBT rights.

get the facts straight, Martin Allan Rabbett is the QUEEN who ruined Richard Chamberlain’ career by latching onto Richard’s golden coattails. Martin is from Waimanalo, HI gradutated from punahau HS 1971 and wa NOTHING lousy actor who fought with Richard all the time to be put into Richard’s productions. Then be progressed into directing with NO DGA creditials using Richard’s name and money to get where he wanted to be something. Then he fell back into nothingless since break up. Martin is just puny wimp and Richard is the real talented Star Man.

    • We are living in the days of sin and lawlessness where evil is called good and good is called evil. Look it up. It’s in the Holy Bible what God thinks of homosexuality!

    • Billy Bob, it still is! God is the same yesterday, today, and forever! Homosexuality is a sin, an abomination in the sight of God. Romans, Chapter One, plus many more verses in the Holy Bible, tells us what God thinks about it.

  3. It is fine to quote the Bible, but everything is open to interpretation, We read and interpret as we want thing to be. I read, “Christians today would do well by the tradition of the apostles and our current witness in the world to recognize that theological abstractions aside, God has already clearly embraced LGBTQ+ people into full communion, and it is now the church’s responsibility to simply honor that reality and rejoice (Luke 15). Christ was born to be a saviour to all, and that includes the gay. “Love one another as Christ loved the Church.” Christ didn’t pick and choose who he loved, he loved all and shed his blood for ALL.
