Who is Scottie Thompson?
Born on 9 November,1981, in Richmond, Virginia, under the water sign of Scorpio, Susan Scott “Scottie” Thompson is a 37-year-old American actress who has appeared in a number of roles on television and the silver screen, as well as a myriad of stage productions. Oblivious to the acting profession at first, she wanted to be a dancer, and went on to pursue this vocation by performing professionally with The Richmond Ballet. Eventually she enrolled at Harvard University, where she understood that acting was her true calling. Over the years, Scottie emerged as one of the most versatile actresses on television, with no signs of slowing down, and is best known for her appearances in “NCIS”, “Star Trek” and “The Brotherhood”.
Early Life: Destined to Be a Dancer?
Scottie was born into an American family in the capital of the state of Virginia. Her father Joseph Thompson is a homemaker, while her mother, whose name hasn’t been disclosed, is a former musician; so it can be said Scottie has artistic genes. She grew up with two siblings, brother Justin and her siste, Payton. At a young age, with the encouragement of her parents and grandmother, Scottie pursued jazz, ballet and modern dance. From the very beginning, she invested a lot of effort into refining her skills and dance routines, and during her early dancing years, she won a couple of local and regional competitions. In 1995, she joined the famous Richmond Ballet and began performing together with their main roster of dancers. Around this time, she started her tenure at the Collegiate School in her hometown, which is known as one of the best preparatory high schools in the country.
Education: Finding Her Place at Harvard
An exceptional student all her life, Scottie enrolled at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she was a member of the Harvard Ballet Company and performed in many stage productions. Even though she was barely 20 years-old, this streak of exceptional performances garnered significant attention throughout the country. In 2003, Scottie worked as the PR manager for Hasty Pudding Theatricals, an acting group formed by students at Harvard, then in 2004, she was the editor and manager of Let’s Go Travel Guides, an organization which gives Harvard students and alumni the opportunity to work as tour guides, and show tourists the campus; she is credited as an editor of the collective’s book “Let’s Go: Vietnam”. In 2005, she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Performance Studies and Literature – given the fact that she has been fluent in French ever since an early age, it’s no surprise that her academic focus was on French and Postcolonial literature.
Career Beginnings: Brotherhood, NCIS and More
Immediately upon graduation, Scottie landed the role of Julia Ketchum in an episode of “Law and Order” – critics had positive things to say about her performance, but she didn’t want to grow complacent. In 2006 she appeared as Shannon McCarthy in four episodes of the hit TV show “The Brotherhood”, which tells the about two brothers of Irish descent – one a notorious gangster, the other is a politician who, ironically, wants to have him arrested. The same year, she was cast as Dr. Jeanne Benoit in “NCIS”, which turned out to be a major success for the Virginian actress; even though she wasn’t a regular on the show, we saw more of her in Seasons Five and Six. Afterwards, Scottie landed small-time roles in “CSI: Miami”, “Ugly Betty” and “Shark”, then she decided to audition for the role of Nero’s Wife in the 2009 “Star Trek” movie, which can be considered her big break, as she showcased her talents to a wider audience.
Continued Success: Trauma, Graceland and More
After making her movie debut, Scottie attracted more recognition, and as a result was cast in the role of Diana Van Dine in “Trauma”, a medical drama centered around a group of paramedics as they struggle to find the balance between their private and professional lives. Even though the show didn’t last long, Scottie deemed it as an excellent addition to her growing resume. After a few smaller roles, we saw her take on the part of Agent Lauren Kincaid in “Graceland”, one of the best crime dramas of the decade. Due to her stellar performance, she was noticed by the director of “The Glades”, and appeared as Corinne in one episode. Later on, we could see her in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “Castle” and even “Bad Teacher”. With these roles, 2014 was Scottie’s busiest year to date, but she still wasn’t done. She capped off an excellent streak of performances with an appearance in four episodes of “The Blacklist”, as Zoe D’Antonio.

Recent Works: Grey’s Anatomy, Rosewood and 12 Monkeys
Fans of “Grey’s Anatomy” were delighted when they saw Scottie assume the role of Dr. Renee Collier in two episodes of the show. However, she wasn’t finished with television that year, as she appeared on an episode of “Rosewood”, a show about a genius Miami pathologist who uses cutting-edge techniques to solve the crimes in South Beach. In 2016, she made an appearance in “12 Monkeys”, a groundbreaking sci-fi series about scenes on post-apocalyptic Earth, and went on to appear in a total of seven episodes. In the last three years, Scottie has mainly been focused on movies – she was in “Crown Vic” and “Epiphany”, a movie about a girl who struggles to maintain a relationship with her estranged father. Currently, she has a number of movies in pre and post-production, so we guess 2020 is going to be a big year for her.

1 | I've trained primarily in Meisner Technique, and I've done a little bit of Groundlings and Upright Citizens Brigade just to get my feet wet in the improv world because I think that's really important. But most of the teachers I've worked with, I've gotten references through agents or managers, and they're sort of independent. |
