Early life and education

Ruby was partially raised in Camden by her father Paul Bentall, an actor, and her mother Janine Duvitski who is an actress best known for portraying Jane Edwards in “Waiting for God” and Pippa Trench in “One Foot in the Grave”.

When Ruby was eight, her family moved to Petersham in south-west London, where she attended Grey Court School, and then enrolled at Richmond-upon-Thames College, matriculating with a BTEC National Diploma in performance.

Ruby and her three siblings Jack, Albert, and Edith occasionally kept their parents’ company on the sets of movies and TV series they were appearing in, and this is how Ruby became interested in acting. The next year, she won roles in three series which are “You Can Choose Your Friends”, “Doctors”, and “Oliver Twist” while one of her most notable roles came in 2008, when she was invited to portray Mary Bennet in “Lost in Austen”, appearing in four episodes of this miniseries, which follows Amanda living in present day London with her boyfriend Michael, and finding out she’s swapped places with Elizabeth Bennet, Jane Austen’s fictional creation.

Ruby won her first TV series regular role in “Lark Rise to Candleford”, in which she portrayed Minnie Mude from 2009 to 2011, and was then invited to portray a regular character Pauline in “The Paradise” in 2012, which follows a young man who is working in a department store. She was a member of the main cast in “Poldark”, portraying Verity Poldark from 2015 to 2018 and in the same year she won this role, she appeared in 10 episodes of “Jekyll and Hyde” as Hilary ‘Hils’ Barnstaple.
