Manuela Escobar was born in Colombia on 25 May 1984, so under the zodiac sign of Gemini and holding Colombian nationality – she is well known thanks to her father Pablo Escobar who was a very powerful drug dealer until he was killed in 1993.
Early life and education
Manuela spent her entire childhood in Colombia alongside her father Pablo Escobar and her mother Maria – she has an older brother named Sebastian Marroquin who is an architect and an author; his original name was Juan Pablo Escobar Henao, but he change it for obvious reasons. Because of the dangers her father’s activities brought along, Manuela was homeschooled rather than being sent to a public (or private) school – she was once even very close to being killed or becoming deaf after a bomb exploded underneath their car which was standing in front of their Monaco apartment building – luckily, they were at a safe distance from the explosion.
Pablo blamed Helmer Herrera for the murder attempt – Helmer was a drug dealer as well, and Pablo’s competitor. Manuela had a generally nice early childhood, as she had everything a child would ever want, while her father was still alive. When she wanted a unicorn for her birthday, Pablo brought a horse with a cow’s horn on its head to her birthday party. While the family was hiding in the Medellin mountains, it is speculated that Pablo burned more than $2 million just to keep his family warm – Manuela was loved by her father to the extent that he promised her that she would be his last child.
Life after her father’s death
Everything changed for Manuela and her family when Pablo was killed on 2 December 1993 in a shootout with the Colombian National Police. The only safe move for the family was to escape Colombia – Manuela, her mother Maria Isabel Santos Caballero and her brother Juan went to Mozambique, then moved to Brazil, however, they didn’t settle until they arrived in Buenos Aires in Argentina.
Wanting to leave the old life behind them, Manuela changed her name to Juana Manuela Marroquin Santos, while both her mother and her brother changed names as well. She and her brother began attending high school while her mother worked steadily on her career as a real estate agent – however, her mom’s identity and her entire family was soon discovered, Manuela didn’t want to go to school anymore, and therefore took private classes at their home.

Pablo was raised in Medellin and studied at college for a brief period of time, before he became involved in criminal activities and quit studying.
What started out as selling illegal cigarettes turned to stealing cars, then working for drug smugglers, kidnapping and ransom. It was 1976 when he founded the Medellin Cartel, distributing cocaine around Colombia and later smuggling it into the US – up to 70 to 80 tons of cocaine each month, making Pablo one of the richest people in the world. Pablo surrendered to police in 1991, and was supposed to spend five years in prison, but escaped in 1992 leading to a world-wide searching for him – the Medellin Cartel was no longer that strong, and Pablo was eventually cornered and killed on 2 December 1993, just a day after he celebrated his 44th birthday.
