Born Todd Joseph Miller on the 4th June 1981 in Denver, Colorado, USA, he’s the son of attorney Kent Miller, and his wife, Leslie Miller, who is a clinical psychologist. His mother is Jewish, while his father a Christian, though T.J. now declares as an atheist. He has very mixed ancestry – English, Scottish, German and Swedish roots from his father’s side, while through his mother he’s of German-Jewish, Russian-Jewish, and Austrian-Jewish descent.

He matriculated from East High School, and then enrolled at George Washington University, from which obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. During his university years, T.J. was a member of the comedy group named receSs, and studied circus arts at Frichess Theatre Urbain in Paris.
