Karen Kopins Shaw was born in Ridgefield, Connecticut USA, on 10 October 1961, so under the zodiac sign of Libra and holding American nationality – she is popular for several things, including for being a former actress and an ex-model.
Early life and education
Karen hasn’t shared much regarding her parents, as she has always wished to keep them away from the media’s attention – as she hasn’t mentioned having any siblings, she appears to be an only child. She fell in love with modelling at a very early age and launched her modelling career by the time she turned 18 – she was also very interested in acting, and is one of not that many people who have managed to make their multiple dreams come true.
Instead of only being focused on her career, Karen was interested in working on her education as well – after matriculating from a local high school in Ridgefield, she enrolled at Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York State, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree four years later.
Career as a model and an actress
Karen has never had a full-time (ordinary) job, but has always rather been focused on her modelling and acting careers. Her career as a model was launched in 1977 when she was only 16 years old – she entered and won the Miss Connecticut 1977 pageant, and thanks to her achievement got to sign with a prestigious modelling agency officially beginning her career as a model.
At the age of 22 in 1983, Karen made her TV series debut in “The Fall Guy”, playing a minor role as a government agent – more minor roles followed in 1984 in “Riptide”, “T.J. Hooker” and “Knight Rider” TV series’. Her movie debut came in 1985, when she played Susan Granger in “Fast Forward”, and then went on to appear in three more movies in the same year, entitled “Heartbeat”, “Creator”, and “Once Bitten” – her career was quickly progressing, as Karen also appeared in “The Love Boat” and “Amazing Stories” TV series’ in 1985.
In 1986, Karen could have been seen playing Sonja Chenko in “The Scarecrow and Mrs. King”, and Dominique Conre in “The A-Team” TV series’, as well as Margaret Winston in the “Jake Speed” movie.
She took the rest of 1986 as well as the entire 1987 as a break from acting, and came back in 1988 to play Sarah Bolton in “The Tracker” movie and then appeared in a single episode of both “Full House” and “Circus” TV series in the same year. The following year she won roles in “Perry Mason: The Case of the Lethal Lesson”, and “Troop Beverly Hills” movies, and “Midnight Caller” and “Dallas” TV series’ – “Dallas” made her somewhat popular, as she had a recurring role and appeared in a total of 13 episodes.
Karen had no idea that her career was steadily coming to an end, but she was to marry and entirely focus on her husband and her children – her last two appearances in movies were in “Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again” in 1990, and “Lady in Waiting” in 1994, while her last two appearances in TV series were in “Designing Women” in 1990 and “The Cosby Mysteries” in 1994.
After playing her final roles, Karen became a housewife and left her acting and modelling careers for a family life.
Marriage with Mark Shaw
Not a lot is known about Karen’s love life and her marriage with Mark Shaw, as she has always preferred to keep her personal matters to herself rather than to share them with the public. Karen and Mark began dating in 1988 but the exact circumstances of their first meeting are not known – rumor has is that the two first met at college in the early ‘80s, but had not begun dating until meeting once again years after graduating.
They exchanged their wedding vows on 8 December 1990 in a small ceremony organized only for their closest friends and families – there have been no rumors nor controversies surrounding their marriage for these 30 years that they’ve been together. They are parents to four children, but their names are not known as both Karen and Mark prefer to keep their lives away from the media’s attention.

Karen was mostly focused on her acting career before starting a family with Mark, but she still has numerous other things she enjoys doing in her spare time.
Karen has been into reading female magazines since she was a young girl, as this was very popular in the ‘60s and ‘70s – she transitioned from magazines to books and has read hundreds of them. She was into travelling while she was still acting, as her job demanded that she had to go all around the US to shoot the scenes she was appearing in – being an actress also made it possible for her to go around Europe and Asia as well. She has always been a lover of animals, and has had two pet dogs who were growing up with her children, but who have, sadly, already passed away.
Karen and her husband Mark have also done a bit of charity work throughout the years, and they consider themselves to be philanthropists.

According to authoritative sources, her current net worth has been estimated to be more than $1 million, but is presumably no longer rising, as she stopped acting, and posing as a model around 25 years ago.

Karen is not that active on the internet, as the popular social media networks were not even launched at the time when she was done with her modelling and acting careers. Karen doesn’t have an Instagram account but people often tag her and wish her a happy birthday on their accounts. She launched a Twitter account in August 2009, but quickly gave up on it after realizing this new fashion was not meant for her – she gathered around seven followers and tweeted only six times, with her last tweet being published on 7 November 2012.
