Who is John Bradley?
British actor John Bradley West was born in Wythenshawe, Manchester, England, on 15 September 1988, making Virgo his zodiac sign. He has 24 acting credits, and is perhaps known best for playing Samwell Tarly in 48 episodes of what’s widely rated the best series of all time: the action adventure “Game of Thrones”. It starred Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke, was based on books by George R. R. Martin and follows several families fighting to rule the lands of Westeros; the series aired from 2011 through 2019 and won 389 of the 1,023 awards for which it was nominated. This was also John’s first TV series role.
He’s today quite active in the film industry, and is currently shooting for the upcoming TV series “3 Body Problem” (original “El Problema de los Tres Cuerpos”).
Education and early life
John was raised in Wythenshawe alongside his 13 years older sister, by their parents who prefer to be left out of media, thus not many details about them have been revealed; it’s believed that John’s father was a car mechanic, and his mother an elementary school teacher.
He studied at St Paul’s Roman Catholic High School prior to transferring to Loreto College, from which he matriculated in 2007; John became interested in acting during his time there, which led him to enroll at Manchester School of Theatre, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting in 2007.
Roles in TV series
John portrayed Giovanni de Medici in five episodes (2011) of the biographical historical drama “Borgia”, which starred Isolda Dychauk and Mark Ryder, and was created by Tom Fontana. It follows the rise and fall of the Renaissance dynasty, the series aired from 2011 through 2014 and won two of its 10 award nominations.
The year 2012 saw John appear in two episodes of both the crime comedy “Shameless”, and the adventure fantasy “Merlin”, and his following role came in 2017, when cast to play Mankum in the episode “CelebriD&D with Game of Thrones’ John Bradley” of the adventure fantasy comedy “CelebriD&D”.
He voiced Gordon Ramsay in the 2019 episode “Boogie Bardstown in: No Need, I Have Coupons” of the short animated adventure “Robot Chicken”, and then portrayed Young Les in the 2020 episode “Les Dawson’s Parisienne Adventure” of the biographical adventure comedy “Urban Myths”.

His only other TV series role has been portraying the main character Max Drummond in all six episodes of the 2023 crime thriller “North Shore”, which also stars Joanne Froggatt and Kirsty Sturgess, and follows an Australian and a British detective as they’ve uncovered an international political conspiracy.
Roles in movies
John’s debut film role was playing Austrian Prince in the 2012 romantic drama “Anna Karenina”, which starred Jude Law and Keira Knightley, was directed by Joe Wright and based on the eponymous book by Lev Tolstoy. Set in Russia in the late 19th century, the film follows St. Petersburg aristocrat Anna Karenina and her affair with Count Alexei Vronsky, and it won 33 of its 86 award nominations, including an Oscar win for Best Achievement in Costume Design.
Some of John’s following roles were in the 2015 romantic comedy “Man Up”, the 2015 thriller “Traders”, and the 2016 action adventure comedy “The Brothers Grimsby”. Also in 2016, he played Gordon in the adventure fantasy comedy “The Last Dragonslayer”, which starred Matt Berry and Adeel Akhtar, and was directed by Jamie Magnus Stone. It follows a teenager who’s discovered that her destiny is to become a dragonslayer, and the movie was nominated for four awards, including a BAFTA for Best Special, Visual and Graphic Effects.
Some of John’s most recent movie roles have been in the science fiction “Against Impossible Odds: Making Moonfall”, the romantic musical comedy “Marry Me”, and the family adventure “The Railway Children Return”, all released in 2022.

John sang “The Song of the Seven” in the 2013 episode “The Climb” of the series “Game of Thrones”.

John’s won four of his 14 award nominations, with some of these wins including the 2017 Northeast Film Festival Award for Best Ensemble Cast, for his and his colleagues’ performance in “American Satan”, a 2018 Independent Days Zeus Award for Best Actor, for “Roger”, and a 2019 IGN Summer Movie Award for Best TV Ensemble, for “Game of Thrones” (shared with colleagues).
Love life and relationships
John rarely speaks about his love life in public, but it’s known that he’s been in a relatioship for more than five years now. He and British journalist Rebecca April met in the summer of 2017 and have since been together; some of John’s fans believe that the two met on a blind date, but this hasn’t been confirmed by John.
There are also those who believe that John and Rebecca have recently exchanged vows, with several people claiming to have seen Rebecca’s wedding ring, but this hasn’t been confirmed either.
John’s in a long-term relationship with Rebecca April as of June 2023, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

John was a huge fan of the British music group Spice Girls while growing up, and often exchanged Spice Girl photos with his high school friends; his favorite was Geri Halliwell.
He’s a huge fan of soccer, and cheers for Manchester United.
