Early life and education
Connor spent his entire childhood in New York City; he was born into a Jewish family, to parents Colin Paolo who works as a writer and screenwriter, and Julia Mendelsohn, who is a piano player and a vocal coach.
Connor fell in love with acting at a very young age thanks to his father – he took his son onto the sets of movies, and Connor soon knew it was what he wanted to do one day. As soon as he matriculated from high school, Connor enrolled at the Professional Performing Arts School, attended by some of the most popular actors of today – Connor also attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, where he studied acting. Simultaneously, he was part of the Appel Farm Arts and Music Center Summer Arts Camp for a couple of years, and had tried studying at college, but quit after only half a year.
Career of an actor
Connor’s acting career was officially launched in 2002. when he won the role of Zachary Connor in the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” TV series – although a minor role, it helped Connor gain recognition, and be invited to act in additional TV series.
Connor could have been seen playing the young Sean Devine in the “Mystic River” movie in 2003, and the young Alexander in the movie of the same name in 2004 – he then appeared in 16 episodes of the “One Life to Live” TV series in the same year.
In 2006, Connor was nominated for the Best Performance in a Feature Film – Supporting Young Actor Award for his performance in the “World Trade Center” movie – he made a return to the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” TV series for a single episode in the same year.
Connor was cast as Warren Hardesky in the “Snow Angels” movie shot in 2007, and then won the role of Eric van der Woodsen in the “Gossip Girl” TV series, for which he is still known today, as he held the role from 2007 to 2012, appearing in all the first four seasons, while he came back as a special guest in the sixth season.
The next couple of years saw Connor appear in several movies, including “Favorite Son” in 2008, “The Winning Season” in 2009, and “Camp Hope” and “Stake Land” in 2010 – he played Everett Cone in the “Mercy” TV series in 2010, and then became part of the main cast of the “Revenge” TV series from 2011 to 2013.
Connor took a break from acting from 2013 to 2016, when he returned in four movies – “Friend Request”, “Like Lambs”, “Outlaw”, and “Stake Land II: The Stakelander” – to date, these have been his last roles in movies. Alice and Connor met on the set of a TV series they were both working on, and began dating shortly afterwards – the relationship lasted for more than two years before the two split for unknown reasons.
After Alice, Connor began dating Grace Van Dien, another actress, and the two are still together – there are no rumors nor controversies surrounding their relationship, and it appears as the two are happy together.
