Filip Geljo spent his early years in his hometown of Toronto, where he was raised by his parents. His mother’s name is still not disclosed, while the name of his father is Jasmin Geljo, a famous Bosnian actor and director. Filip holds both Canadian and Filipino nationality, and so is of mixed ethnic origin. Filip was home-schooled.

Rise to Fame as Agent Otto in “Odd Squad”

Filip Geljo’s started pursuing his acting career in 2014, when he made his debut TV appearance as Lee in the made-for-television action film “The Last Chance”, directed by his father Jasmin Geljo, and written by Goran Stjepanovic.

During the same year, Filip was chosen to portray Agent Otto in the Canadian/American live action educational series for children, entitled “Odd Squad”, and starred in the role until 2016. The series was created by Adam Peltzman and Tim McKeon, and premiered on the TVOKids network in Canada and the PBS Kids network in the United States in November 2014. The series follows the “Odd Squad” employees who have to explore various strange occurrences in their town by using basic math and indirect reasoning, and features such child actors as Dalila Bela, Millie Davis, Sean Michael Kyer and Anna Cathcart, among others.

Filip later reprised the role of Agent Otto in the 2016 film “Odd Squad: The Movie”, directed by J. J. Johnson.

Filip Geljo made his debut film appearance in the Canadian drama film “The Waiting Room”, which is based on the real life of his father. It follows Jasmin Geljo, who was a renowned actor in pre-war Yugoslavia, but had to emigrate to Canada to find a better place for living. Living there with his second wife, portrayed by Ma-Anne Dionisio, and his son, portrayed by his real-life son Filip, Jasmin struggles to return to his native country, re-launch his old popular stage show, and become famous again. The film was released in 2015, directed by Igor Drljaca.

Filip next portrayed Phillip in the 2015 short drama “Shahzad”, directed by Haya Waseem. Jasmin Geljo was born on 18 September 1959 under the sign of Virgo in Sarajevo, PR Bosnia-Herzegovina, then FPR Yugoslavia, and is one of the most popular Bosnian actors, and a director and producer. Upon matriculation, he enrolled in the University of Sarajevo’s Academy of Dramatic Arts to study Drama, where one of his professors was famous film director Emir Kusturica. He also studied acting at Academy of Performing Arts, located in Sarajevo.

Acting Career in Yugoslavia

At the age of 11, Jasmin made his film debut in the film “Boy With A Violin”, and his first major role came in 1985, when he appeared in the drama “When Father Was Away On Business”, directed by Emir Kusturica. During the same year, Jasmin attracted fame with his breakthrough role of Mima Šiš in the popular Yugoslav made-for-television stage show “Audicija” (“The Audition”), which he later reprised in “Nova Audicija” (“New Audition”) in 1991.

From 1992 to 1997, Jasmin had to take a break since he immigrated to Canada in 1993, during the Bosnian War.

His first major role was as Ryjkin in the Canadian sci-fi psychological horror film “Cube Zero” in 2004.
