David Bromstad is an American television personality and an interior designer, who is best known for winning the debut season of HGTV’s “Design Star”. He hosts his own television show called “Color Splash with David Bromstad”, and its spin-offs “Color Splash Miami” and “My Lottery Dream Home”.

Early life and educational background

David Reed Bromstad was born on the 17th of August 1973, in Cokato, Minnesota, USA, to Diane Marlys and Richard Harold Bromstad, who have Swedish-German and Norwegian origins. David has three older siblings: Dean Richard, Dynelle Renee and Dyonne Rachael Bromstad.

Growing up, David had a strong interest in art and design and focused on it even after his matriculation from Wayzata High School in Plymouth, Minnesota. While in school David was determined to pursue a career as a Disney animator, and so attended Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, which was a famous base for careers with Disney. Initially, David chose animation as his elective subject, but later on majored in illustration, as he didn’t have an interest in computer-aided designs.

Career

Career at Disney:

Shortly after graduating in 1995, David got a job with Disney beginning as a retail merchandiser, and gradually moved to jobs as an illustrator and animator in recognition of his obvious talent. Additionally, he created sculptures, wood-works and painting murals, including major constructions for “Walt Disney World”, “Universal Studios” and “Islands of Adventure”. However, due to sudden lay-offs at Disney David lost his job and became unemployed.

Start of Bromstad Studio

Soon after being laid off, David founded his own company, Bromstad Studio which focused on designing dream bedrooms for children. His experience in wood-working, painting, prop designing and illustrating enabled him to create unique, individual designs.

Career as a television personality

It was not long before he was noticed for his passion and talent and a friend urged him to participate on HGTV’s “Design Star”. David moved to Miami Beach to take part against nine other competitors for the ultimate prize, and he emerged the winner. He was rewarded with a new car, and an opportunity to host his own show on the channel. This began his career as the host of various shows such as “Color Splash” and “My Lottery Dream Home”. He also participated as a mentor, guest judge and blogger for the same network.

David also owns his own design firm based in Miami, where he showcases his out-of-the-box ideas and ‘blends styles that incorporate realism and fantasy’. His firm provides various design services for homes and offices across the US, Canada and Mexico.

Spokesperson and Ambassador

The television personality also acts as a spokesperson and mentor for “Mythic Paint”, produced minus most chemicals, as well as an ambassador for brands like “Miele Home Appliances”.

Acting career

Aside from being a television host, David has also appeared in movies like “Behind the Magic: Disney Holidays” and “Ultimate Color Guide”.

Ex-boyfriend— Jeffrey Glasko

David publicized his sexual preference in an interview in 2012, and revealed his long time partner, Jeffrey Glasko. The two met at a party on Valentine’s Day 2004 at a club in Firestone, Florida, and began dating ‘til their unpleasant break-up that concluded with a lawsuit in 2015. According to Jeffrey, David left him emotionally and financially devastated after using their money for alcohol, drugs and prostitutes, but the case was dismissed, proving David’s innocence. In December 2015, Jeffrey once again filed a lawsuit against David for breaching their co-habitation contract and demanded a compensation for it.

Current boyfriend

A year after his bitter break-up with Jeffrey, David hinted at a new relationship in an Instagram post ‘best BF ever’. Since 2016 the actor hasn’t posted anything about his current relationship, hence there is no information about David’s current status.

David hosted a fundraising event for the US Salvation Army in 2013, which was an act towards gay equality, rights, and the LGBT community, but faced criticism and massive backlash from his fans for participating in the event. Many people shamed him for supporting a company which had expressed anti-gay viewpoints in the past. He replied on his official Facebook, ‘… I applaud the Salvation Army’s symbolic handshake towards acceptance, and would be foolish to not extend my hand in acceptance’.

  1. Love watching your shows. I’ 66 years old, living in a homeless shelter. Never thought I’ be on public assistance or homeless. Must say that I just read your attitude about life and I couldn’t agree more. The pains of my life have shown me the blessings the Lord has bestowed on my in the past 2 years. Even an empty bed at the homeless shelter was a blessing when I was in need. Now I’ll be moving into a beautiful senior citizen apartment at a rent that I can afford.
