Chelah Horsdal Wiki Bio: Early Life, Family and Education
Horsdal grew up in the Kitsilano neighborhood of Vancouver with her two brothers, named Yani and Theo. They were raised by their mother Lindsay and father Paul Valdemar, the famous and critically acclaimed Canadian folk and country musician better known by his stage name Valdy. In addition to her father’s artistic influence, Chelah’s paternal grandmother was a writer, while her Danish grandfather was a photographer. She and her brothers attended Bayview Elementary and Lord Byng Secondary Schools.
Hailing from a ‘wildly creative family‘, Chelah developed an inclination towards the arts early on. However, wanting to avoid her father’s shadow, she opted for acting and modeling instead. As soon as she matriculated from high school, she started appearing in commercials and local television shows. After a year or so, she decided to drastically change her lifestyle, as she caught the travel bug, and became a true globetrotter for the next couple of years. Her adventures took her from continent to continent – she lived for a while in India, Australia, Continental Europe, the Caribbean and South East Asia, and supported herself by doing all kinds of work, including being a designer, waitress and event producer.
Settling down and Start of Acting Career
Even though she made her acting debut in 1993, Chelah did not really settle for the life of an actress until 2002, when she decided she was done with traveling the world. Despite her previous experience, she undertook acting lessons at the Lyric School of Acting, and also trained with professionals such as John Cassini, Larry Moss and Ivana Chubbuck. In 2003, she made her first guest appearances in television shows, and landed several supporting roles in movies. She acted in more than 10 differing shows in 2004 alone, paving the way for her productive career.
Breakout and Rise to Stardom
Horsdal’s breakout role happened to be in the genre of science fiction, when she was cast as Lt. Womack in “Stargate SG-1” in 2004. Over the years, she would become famous among science fiction fans for her roles in cult the television show “Battlestar Galactica”, and horror movie “Alien vs Predator: Requiem”. The actress also played the lead roles in fan-favorite and critically renowned shows “The Man in the High Castle”, “Hell on Wheels”, “You Me Her” and “When Calls the Heart”.
Regarding her notable big screen roles, she appeared alongside James Franco in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, “Possession” co-staring Sarah Michelle Gellar, and “Elegy” with Penelope Cruz and sir Ben Kingsley.
Over the course of her career, she has received a number of nominations, and won two awards for best actress: one for her supporting role in “The Man in the High Castle”, and the other for the lead role in the 2016 independent drama movie “Candiland”, which she also produced. As of her recent endeavors, she has two new movies, “Spontaneous” and “Noelle”, coming up in late 2019.
With a career as busy as Horsdal’s, spanning almost two decades and more than 140 films and 80 commercials, it’s no wonder she has been able to acquire a net worth of around $2 million, as authoritative sources have estimated. The Vancouver native has had one of the most productive careers on both big and small screen, and looking at her recent engagements, she is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.
When it comes to details regarding her personal life, most notably her relationship status, the actress is very keen on not sharing any information.
Horsdal sparked some confusion among her fans that she is married to fellow actor Rufus Sewell, her on-screen husband from “The Man in the High Castle”, due to the fact that she often shares photos with him on social media, with captions such as ‘my hubs‘. However, the two are just great friends, and she’s unmarried. Chelah is an outspoken animal rights activist, and has sold her paintings and photographs for charity on more than one occasion. Even though her work often takes her elsewhere, she still resides in Vancouver.
