She’s also served for other television stations during her career, and contributes to work outside of the field.
Education and Career Beginnings
At a young age, Ashley became interested in the pursuit of a television career, so after matriculating from high school, she enrolled at Bethany College, West Virginia where she took up a degree in Communication. The college is the first institution of higher learning in the state, having been founded in 1840 during the Restoration Movement headed by Alexander Campbell.
After completing her bachelor’s degree, she continued her studies by enrolling at Mississippi State University to gain her meteorology certification. The university is known for its agricultural and science programs, and is also an institution with history reaching back to the late 1800s. The university is the only home of accredit programs in several fields, such as architecture and veterinary medicine.
Following the completion of her degree, in 2008 she landed her first job in the locality, serving with the station WTRF in Wheeling as a weekend meteorologist.
The station is a CBS affiliate, and she helped provide forecasts during nightly news and other public affairs programs. The station also serves nearby Ohio, particularly the area of Steubenville.
Continued Meteorologist Work
After two years with WTRF, she left the company and began to do freelance work. During this time she primarily worked for the station KDKA-TV as a meteorologist; the station is owned by CBS and serves the Pennsylvania area, centered on Pittsburgh. She worked with the local newscast team, which produced around 40 hours of news each week.
She worked as a freelancer for two years, and was then hired by WTAE-TV, and became a part of the “Channel 4 Action News” team – the station is affiliated with the ABC and has been in operation since the 1950s. The newscasts here are much less, due to other programs taking up five hours of weekly television. She mainly appeared during the afternoon and evening newscasts which focused on the Pittsburgh area as well as surrounding areas, and nationwide weather. The weather team has received several awards through the years, and they’ve increased weather coverage due to viewer demands, as it is one of the most sought after pieces of news within a day.

Aside from her work with the station, she has contributed to the production of “The Point with Mark Hyman”, on which she was an editor for some time. The show follows the titular physician in one of his first television projects.
She also does a lot of philanthropic and charity work during her free time. She is a big animal advocate, owns a pet dog, and has worked with organizations to help reduce animal neglect, being against all forms of animal abuse, and has been seen in pet shelters.
She’s helped provide homes to dogs and cats through promotion, charity work, and her reach due to her popularity on television. She does traveling as well, and loves to bake. She prioritizes relaxing and freeing her mind from any work when away from the office, as reporting on the weather does take-up a lot of her time.
