Education and Career Beginnings
Ashley became interested in the pursuit of a television career at a young age, so after matriculating from high school, she enrolled at Bethany College, West Virginia where she took up a degree in Communications. The college is the first institution of higher learning in the state, having been founded in 1840 during the Restoration Movement headed by Alexander Campbell.
After completing her bachelor’s degree, she continued her studies by enrolling at Mississippi State University to gain her meteorology certification. The university is the only home of accredit programs in several fields, such as architecture and veterinary medicine.
Following the completion of her degree, in 2008 she landed her first job in the locality, serving with the station WTRF in Wheeling as a weekend meteorologist. The station is a CBS affiliate, and she helped provide forecasts during nightly news and other public affairs programs. The station also serves nearby Ohio, particularly the area of Steubenville.
Continued Meteorologist Work
After two years with WTRF, she left the company and began to do freelance work, primarily working for the station KDKA-TV as a meteorologist; the station is owned by CBS and serves the Pennsylvania area, centered on Pittsburgh. She worked with the local newscast team, which produced around 40 hours of news each week.
