Kevin McKidd was born on the 9th August 1973 in Elgin, Moray, Scotland; he is the son of Neil McKidd, a plumber and his wife, Kathleen, who worked as a secretary. He spent his childhood in a council estate near Inverness, and for his education went to Seafield Primary School, and then Elgin Academy. During his high school, he was a part of the Moray Youth Theatre, however, at first Kevin was more interested in engineering as a study field, and enrolled at the University of Edinburgh, but after a while switched to Edinburgh’s Queen Margaret College, where he studied drama.
There, he became a member of the student company Bedlam Theatre, and also worked on his improv comedy with the improvisational comedy troupe The Improverts.

Kevin McKidd rose to stardom with his debut role, playing Tommy in the cult film “Trainspotting”, starring next to Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, and Johnny Lee Miller in 1996.
