Having been raised by academically educated parents, Alexis was urged to focus on her education from a very early age, and was thus amongst the top of her class while attending a local elementary school. She went on to attend Putney School in Vermont, and was highly active during her four years there, as she appeared in various plays performed at the school, wrote articles for the school sports newspaper, and played tennis.

Upon matriculating in 1983, Alexis enrolled at Columbia University’s Barnard College, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in English in 1987; her mother Martha had attended the same college.

Alexis’ career

Alexis hasn’t shared many details with the public concerning her early career, but it’s known that she had several jobs in the two decades following her graduation, and was mostly focused on working on radio.

She gained recognition in October 2005, when she and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt began hosting the talk-show “Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer”. It was characterized by them talking about whatever came to their mind, and ran through to 2011 when it ended.

Concurrently, on 16 September 2008, Alexis and Jennifer began hosting the show “Whatever, Martha” for Fine Living Network, and it was renewed for another season in 2009, which premiered on 23 September; in the show, the two women made fun of the TV show “Martha Stewart Living”, which featured Alexis’ mother during her everyday life. Martha seemed to like the show, and even appeared in an episode, making fun of herself. “Whatever, Martha” aired its final episode on 10 June 2011.

On 9 September 2011, Alexis published her book “Whateverland: Learning to Live Here”.

She has since been staying away from the media’s attention, and her most recent work which the public knows about, was her production of the 2013 episode “I Love Cannons” of the reality series “Lords of War”.

However, it’s also been revealed that Alexis is today the owner of the East Hampton Gym, and the Bridgehampton Motel, which no doubt keeps her busy and adds to her net worth.

Love life and husband

Alexis prefers to keep the details of her love life away from the media’s attention, but it’s still widely known that she was once a married woman.

She exchanged vows with the American lawyer John Robert Cuti in 1997, in a private ceremony attended by only the closest of their friends and family members; John is also a guitarist, and once played for The Inflatables. John later worked as Alexis’ mother’s lawyer, when she was found guilty of lying about a stock sale and obstruction of justice, and was sentenced to spend five months behind bars, another five in home confinement, and was put on two years’ probation.

Alexis and John divorced in 2004.

She then spent the following 15 years dating the billionaire Charles Simonyi on-and-off, but they parted ways for good in February 2008.
