Early life and education
Reed was raised in Ada Township alongside his two sisters, by their mother Susan Tolbert and father Dan Timmer; not a lot is known about Reed’s family as he respects their privacy, but it’s said that his father was a high school teacher, and that his mother was a housewife.
He became interested in weather when he was around seven years old, after a thunderstorm hit his city and dropped huge hail in his backyard. Reed was highly active while attending Forest Hills Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and competed in Science Olympia while attending both middle school and Forest Hills Central; Reed was also physically highly active, as he ran track and played football.

Reed launched his career as a meteorologist while still attending college, and gained recognition for the pictures and videos of stormy weather which he and his team had uploaded onto TornadoVideos.net. At that time, Reed and his team drove the vehicle SRV Dominator, which was loved both by other storm chasers and Reed’s fans.
He covered storms from his SRV Dominator 2 for the TV station KFOR, licensed to Oklahoma City, while he then spent the majority of his career working at AccuWeather, which he quit in 2019, and focused on being a self-employed content creator.
His vehicles
Reed calls all of his cars Dominator, while his first – Dominator 1 – was a modified 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, which he used in 2008 and 2009.
His second car Dominator 2 was a 2011 GMC Yukon XL, which he and his team members had purchased together.
Reed’s third storm chasing car Dominator 3 was a Ford F-350; it was able to detect storms and its hydraulic systems would then lower the pickup to the road and 8-inch spikes would drive into the ground, thus stopping the wind from lifting the vehicle.
