A versatile actor with nearly 20 acting credits to his name, Matthew Daddario rose to prominence playing a responsible leader, Alec Lightwood in the series “Shadowhunters”, which besides fame brought him the Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Actor: Fantasy/Sci-Fi, in 2018. Early life, family, and education

Born Matthew Quincy Daddario under the zodiac sign of Libra on 1 October 1987, in New York City, USA, he holds American nationality and comes from a family of very mixed Irish, English, Italian, Slovak and Hungarian descent. He was raised by parents Christina and Richard, a lawyer and prosecutor, respectively, alongside his sisters, Alexandra and Catharine, both actresses.

Matthew dreamed of becoming an actor from an early age, however, his parents felt it was important for him to have a good education. Matthew attended the Collegiate School, a private school for boys, and upon matriculating in 2005, he enrolled at Indiana University, Bloomington, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, in 2010.

After keeping his promise to his parents and obtaining a college degree, Matthew focused on his dream to become a famous actor.

Acting career

Matthew made his acting debut playing Peter Hamble in the 2012 short movie “The Debut” (Symbolic?) In the following year, he made his first big-screen appearance as Aaron in the romantic drama “Breathe In”, starring Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce and Mackenzie Davis. Although Matthew had a supporting role, according to critics, his captivating on-screen presence and down-to-earth charm didn’t go unnoticed.

Later in 2013, he followed with his roles in “36 Saints” and “Delivery Man”, starring Vince Vaughn and Chris Pratt. Matthew was next cast as Peter in the 2014 comedy “Growing Up and Other Lies”, which followed the story of an artist who, after years of struggling in New York City, decides to return to his hometown in Ohio. However, before leaving the Big Apple, he convinces his three oldest friends to help him relive their greatest adventure.

Matthew followed with his role as Danny Ladouceur in the 2014 biographic drama “When the Game Stands Tall”, inspired by the extraordinary true story of legendary American Football coach,Bob Ladouceur, which was nominated for the GMA Dove Award for Inspirational Film of the Year.

In the following year, Matthew landed the role of Gabriel in the romantic comedy “Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List”, which was his first lead role. Matthew starred opposite Victoria Justice and Pierson Fode, in this story about two best friends who both fall for the same guy.

Matthew played Jeff in the 2016 horror “Cabin Fever”, followed by his breakthrough role as Matthias in “The Last Hunt”, a mystery drama about integrity, moral code, and the questionable ethics of a pact. Matthew co-directed this short movie with Brock Harris, and the two share nominations for the SoHo International Film Festival Prize for Best Showcase Short Film, and the Golden Door International Film Festival of Jersey City Award for Best Short, with them winning the Long Island International Film Expo Festival Prize for Best Short Film.

Later in 2016, came Matthew’s most notable TV series role as Alec Lightwood in “Shadowhunters”, which also was his first TV series appearance. From 2016 through 2019, he was seen in 55 episodes of this fantasy action drama which followed the story of humans born with angelic blood who need to protect the world from demons. The show, also starring Katherine McNamara, Alberto Rosende, and Dominic Sherwood, had 23 award nominations and 13 wins.

Matthew won the Teen Choice Award- Breakout Star in 2016 and was nominated for another four Teen Choice Awards, including the Choice: Liplock which he shares with Harry Shum Junior.

After his role in “Shadowhunters”, Matthew guest–starred as Blaine in an episode of the series “Tommy” in 2020, followed by his role as Owen in the 2021 thriller drama “Trust”, in which he starred opposite Katherine McNamara and Victoria Justice.

Later that year, he landed the role of Scooter Polarsky in the hit crime-drama series “Why Women Kill”, which although had no nominations, was well-rated by the audience (8.3/10). Matthew was next seen in the movies “Wild Game” (2021), “Into the Deep” and “Dance Dads” in 2022, and most recently, he guest-starred as John DiPierro in an episode of the popular series “Blue Bloods” in 2023.

Matthew’s admirers will be happy to hear that he has announced his role as Marty in the upcoming comedy movie “Party O’Clock”, which is currently in development.

Love life and relationships

This young actor has been the subject of various rumors concerning his romantic life, however, it’s widely known that Matthew is a married man, since 31 December 2017, to his long-term girlfriend, Esther Kim. Esther is a fashion designer, who sells her products online.

The couple welcomed their daughter in 2020, whose name they haven’t disclosed. As of July 2023, the family of three lives in their residence in New York City.

Matthew is 35 years old, and his trademarks are his green eyes and dark brown hair. Many of his (mostly female) fans said that he’s a good-looking young man.
