Fans of “Lethal Weapon” are more than familiar with Chandler Kinney, the African-American actress, model and producer, who played Riana Murtaugh for three seasons. However, it feels like the general public is just getting to know the rising star, who was born in Sacramento, California, USA, on 3rd August 2000, and raised in southern California.
Chandler’s first movie role was playing Chantel in “Battlefield America”. Just 12 years old, the brown-eyed beauty was already a trained dancer who’d never even thought about acting. However, life clearly had different plans for her, as a year later, she guest-starred in episodes of “90210” and “American Horror Story” and played Ally McKinley in the TV movie “Company Town”.
In 2014, Chandler scored her first recurring role as Annabelle in several episodes of “The Haunted Hathaways”. She was also cast as Catherine Dillman in “Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street”, a role that would last her until 2016. In 2015, she guest-starred as Vanessa in an episode of the hugely popular children’s show “Girl Meets World”, and began filming for “Lethal Weapon”.
The comedy-drama TV series was developed by Matt Miller and based on Shane Black’s film franchise of the same name. The show ran for three seasons on Fox, and Chandler had an integral role as the main character’s teenage daughter. While filming season two of the show, the actress also found time to guest-star in two episodes of “K.C. Undercover”.
2020 was perhaps Chandler’s busiest year to date as she appeared in a number of music videos related to the TV movie “Zombies 2”. Her role as Willa in the Disney production made her hugely appealing to a younger demographic, and led to her appearing in spin-off shows such as “Addison’s Moonstone Mystery”. The Californian was also part of Disney Channel Star’s music video for “Put The Happy in the Holidays”, which was released in December 2020.
In 2021, Chandler made a cameo in Joshua Bassett’s music video for “Telling Myself”, did voiceover work in “The Ghost and Molly McGee” and “Addison’s Monster Mystery”, and prepared for new and even more exciting projects. The following year saw her reprise her role as Willa in “Zombies 3”, and join the cast of “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” as one of the main characters, Tabby Haworthe.
The similarities between Tabby and Chandler are striking, as 16-year-old Tabby is a horror buff and aspiring director. However, her outwards confidence and fiery personality are a mere cover-up: like the rest of the Little Liars, Tabby is hiding a dark secret, and hers is that she was assaulted by a stranger after getting drunk at a bonfire party in the woods.
Right now, Chandler has plenty of upcoming projects related to her current roles. She is set to appear in “Pretty Little Liars: Summer School” and “ZOMBIES: The Re-Animated Series”, meaning that she’s got her work cut out for the rest of 2023. Previously, the actress tried her hand at directing with the 2019 short “Unseen” and the TV mini-series “Across the Pond”.
Personal Life & Net Worth
Unsurprisingly, Chandler has garnered a massive TikTok following of almost a million, and her Instagram isn’t too far behind. Given that social media has become a necessary tool for Gen Z celebrities, or those affiliated with the entertainment industry, we can see why the model has put in so much time and effort to cultivate the perfect digital footprint.
Chandler’s Instagram is full of work-related posts, with the odd selfie or family photo. Although she posts sparingly, all of her snaps receive thousands of likes and comments. One thing that she doesn’t promote nearly as much as she should is her non-profit organization, Chandler’s Friends, which has been going strongly since at least 2018.
In a rare interview – with The Italian Reve – the actress explained the organization’s mission, saying: “I hope to give underprivileged youth a better chance at success and work towards gender parity in education… The goal is to reach as many lives as possible.” So far, Chandler’s Friends has hosted dozens of events and fundraisers, and helped thousands of children across the country.
Meanwhile, many are curious to know how Chandler got her start in the entertainment industry, and if acting was always her passion. The truth is that her dream was to become a professional dancer; at just three years old, she began studying with Debbie Allen at the prestigious Debbie Allen Dance Academy, during which time the Californian had an audition for a Gap commercial, and booked the job.
“I loved my on-set experience and I thought maybe I could do this,” Chandler told Refinery 29 in late 2018. From then on, she began taking acting classes just for commercials; the rest, as they say, is history.
Chandler is also a great fan of traveling and exploring new areas. Her go-to place for whenever she feels overwhelmed is Malibu, as she claims that the ocean has “serious calming/healing properties”. Meanwhile, her dream role would be playing a Marvel character; other hobbies include fashion, beauty and make-up, and reading.
Regarding Chandler’s dating history, there’s not much we can tell you because the actress has done an excellent job at keeping her private life separate from her career. Some of her fans believe that she was once in a relationship with her “ZOMBIES 2” co-star Pearce Joza, but the rumors were never confirmed.
Followers of the actress were also astonished to learn that she’s related to the deceased Chicago rapper Juice WRLD (birth name Jarad Anthony Higgins). Juice, who reached mainstream fame thanks to his hit single “Lucid Dreams”, was born in December 1998 and died mere days after his 21st birthday of an accidental drug overdose. The tragic incident took place during a drug raid at Midway Airport in Chicago, when Juice swallowed a fatal number of pills. With that said, Chandler and Juice weren’t believed to have been close at the time of his death, despite being first cousins once removed.
As of 2023, Chandler’s net worth is estimated at over $500,000, a figure that could change over the next few months thanks to her upcoming projects.
